Gwen sat in the back of the alley, trying to get warm. She was longing for her old life, the life where she had had everything she wanted, almost. She had her own phone line, computer, TV, stereo, CDs, tons of clothes. The CDs were only rap and R&B, that bubble gum pop music bugged her. But then, her house had burned down. With her parents, dog, and all of her stuff inside. The fire was a total disaster.
She had tried to live with some friends but that just didn't work. All of her money was gone and after she finished up her third year at Miami University, she had split. She hadn't actually been running away; she had nothing to run from. But Gwen didn't have a lot of money and had only made it to Orlando.
She had come hoping to start a new life. Orlando was bursting with jobs in the music business. But she soon discovered how hard it was to get a job when you hadn't graduated from college. She got a job at McDonalds. Not the best but it was all she could get. She was saving up her money for an apartment. She had been homeless for six months.
Gwen tried not to think of it. All of the sudden, a gang walked into the alley. No one came into this alley; it was Gwen's and hers only. All of the guys in the gang had their heads shaved. They all had about five earrings and a couple of tattoos. Not that Gwen had anything against tattoos; she had one of an Aztec sun on her left shoulder blade.
Gwen recognized the leader-Evan. They had their share of run-ins in the last six months and didn't get along. At all.
"What do you want, Evan?" she asked, standing up.
"Nothing Gwen," he told her sweetly.
But Gwen knew that he wasn't sweet. Then she saw him nod his head and his entire gang rushed forward. Two were faster than the others. Gwen kicked one in the jaw and he went down. But as she brought her leg down, the other one grabbed it and he kicked her leg. Gwen fell down from the pain and felt her leg snap. This guys had been a punter in college before he was kicked out.
When Gwen fell, she landed hard on her tailbone. Then she saw someone else coming at her and everything went black.
