Chapter 5

Gwen saw that JC guy looking at her and quickly looked away. She didn't like when people stared ar her. The guys started to sing the song that the little kid had called Here We Go. Gwen just stood in the doorway.

After the guys finished singing, JC hugged a few kids and then started to walk towards Gwen.

"Hi," he said. "I'm JC."

"I know," Gwen told him. "I heard that little girl say it. I'm Gwen."

"So what happened to you? If you don't mind me asking."

"A gang came into my alley and attacked me. This," she said, pointing to her leg, "is from a guy, who was a punter, kicking me."

"Ow."

"Yeah, but his buddy probably has a broken jaw," she said, smiling.

JC laughed and then asked:

"Do you like our music?"

"It's okay for that bubble gum pop stuff."

"You don't like pop?"

"Not really."

What do you like?"

"Rap, R&B, Rock."

"Like what?"

"Dru Hill, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Tyrese, Destiny's Child, Will Smith, Mase, Puffy, Missy Elliott, Areosmith, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Everlast, Everclear."

"Wow."

"What?"

"It's just that I don't meet a lot of people that like that variety in music. Look, we got to get going. But we're coming back here tomorrow to see some kids. How about I stop in your room?"

"Sure. Just ask for Gwen Hungate. The nurses all know me."

"Kay," he said. "Guy, we have to hit the road," he called over his shoulder. "I'll see you tomorrow," he told Gwen.

"Yeah. Well, bye."

"Bye."

And JC watched Gwen and she swung down the hallway on the crutches. Then she got in the elevator and was out of JC's site.
