Chapter 3

Nick was cruising along when, all of the sudden, a girl appeared in front of his car. He slammed on the brakes and just avoided hitting her.

"Are you okay?" he asked, getting out of the car.

"Yes," she said softly. Nick strained to hear her.

"Do you want a ride somewhere? You're going to get soaked."

"I'll be fine," she said.

Nick took a good look at her. She was practically dry. He was already drenched and he had only been out of the car a couple minutes.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes." She paused. "Are you Nick?"

"Yes," Nick replied. "How did you know?"

"I didn't. I just had to make sure." With that, she started to walk away.

"Wait! What's your name?" Nick called after her.

"That's not important now," she told him. "When you're supposed to find out, you will."

She just kept on walking. Nick watched until he could see her. She seemed to disappear into the rain. Then Nick got back in his car, soaking wet, and headed home.
