Chapter 9

A few days later, Isabell was at her hiding place on the beach. It was one that her and Rich had discovered one day. It was a small part of sand surrounded by grass and at the back was a sand dune. She knew she could be alone without being interrupted by anyone but Rich and that was good with her.

She was thinking about the kiss. She was concentrating so hard on her thought and keeping J out that she didn't realized that time had stopped until Rich was right next to her.

"Isabell," he said, poking at her with his foot. "Hello?"

"Oh, hi," she said, opening her eyes and squinting up at him.

"What are you doing?"

"Just thinking."

"Don't think so hard. You look way too tense. Sit up. I'll give you a backrub."

"Okay."

Isabell sat up and Rich sat behind her and started to rub her back. At his touch, she felt herself relax. Her thought started to drift back to J and she blocked him out, in fear he would try to get it.

"Iz, what's up with you?" Rich demanded. "You just tensed right back up."

"Nothing."

"That's bull and you know it." Isabell didn't say anything. "What's wrong? You can tell me."

Rich leaned against the sand dune and motioned for Isabell to sit next to him. He put his arm around her shoulder.

"Now, talk."

So, Isabell talked. She told him about the kiss and how she had been thinking about it last few days. But she didn't tell him about the telepathy. That was a little too weird, even for her.

"Iz, I don't get why you're making such a big deal out of this," He told her when she was done. "It was just a kiss."

"But, Rich, it felt really different."

"How different? Good or bad?"

"I think good," she said softly.

"It sounds like you don't want it to feel good."

"That's not it," she protested. "I liked it and everything."

"Maybe Brits just kiss differently."

"Is that really possible?"

"Don't know until you try."

Isabell leaned in and kiss Rich. He kissed her back but nothing happened. They came apart.

"Nada," they both said and smiled. Isabell leaned back against his arm.

"You know what that means though, don't you?" Rich asked.

"What?"

"That you and J have something. And from what you're telling me, you're the only one denying it."
