Chapter 6

I glanced at the clock and it was 9:00 a.m., and I get to go home today. What really surprised me, was that Mercedes hadn't even come to say hi or anything. I don't have any money or anything, so I am pretty much in deep shit if she doesn't come to get me. A few hours later when the release papers were signed and I was allowed to leave, I sat on a bench outside of the hospital and waited. And waited. And waited some more.

After sitting on that bench for what seemed like centuries, It got dark outside and it was then I knew that bitch I called my best friend dumped me in the middle of nowhere. I knew from day 1 I couldn't trust her. A beat up old pick up truck pulled over and a man asked me if he could give me a lift somewhere, and I told him to take me to the nearest hotel, hoping Mercedes got a room there. The man was very nice, and he had soft, attractive features. He said his name was Ricky or something. Five minutes later, I thanked him and got out of the truck. I was at some fancy ass hotel, and it was called the Radison or something.

I walked through the two automatic doors, and gasped from the luxurious sight. The carpets were lush and bushy with beautiful designs of blue and gold. The wall paper clung tightly to the walls, as if it were hanging on for dear life. The attendants and maids looked crisp and well groomed, and I felt very out of place clad only in my leather pants and top. I slowly made my way to the front desk, taking in all the beauty of the hotel. "Excuse me miss, is a person under the name of Mercedes Vaughn staying here?" The woman typed the name up on her computer, and found no one by that name staying here. I thanked her and sat down in a fluffy pink chair, wondering what I was going to do next.

I sat there till about 11:30, until a maid asked me to leave. I walked out of the hotel in wonder, and deep in thought. It was very chilly outside, and I regretted giving Mercedes my leather jacket. Having no place to stay and nowhere to go, I curled up under a big bus in the parking lot and fell asleep. I abruptly awoke to the sounds of people, very close to me. It was barely dawn, and as much as I wanted to go back to sleep I couldn't because I was petrified. I had no idea how to escape without someone seeing me.

"What do I care?" I asked myself aloud. Taking a deep breath, I rolled over and got to the end of the bus. I quickly got up and brushed myself off, only to be greeted by five curious faces.

I looked like hell. My leather outfit was all scuffed and worn and my hair looked like it could grow legs and walk away at any moment.

"What were you doing underneath our bus?" one of the five guys asked me.

"Planting a bomb, so that your crapy ass music will stop playing on the radio." I said, trying to look serious.

"Ummm....does that mean our bus is going to explode?" some stupid blonde said.

"Yes, you dumbass!" the Cuban one spat.

"Holy shit! I have to rescue my blowup girlfriend! Don't worry Patunia!!! I'll save you!"

Nick turned and ran on the bus, and all of us were laughing at the stupidity of someone they called Nick. I explained to them I was only joking about the bomb, and they laughed some more. They all introduced themselves to me, and I have to admit they were hot.

Seconds later a frantic Nick came flying off the bus, with a blowup doll in hand.

"Ummm...why exactly do you have a blowup doll?" I asked him.

"Because I'm so fat I can't get a girlfriend and because I always wanted a girlfriend that was an air head."

All of us just had to laugh at that. Nick stood there puzzled, not exactly figuring out why we were laughing. When I realized he was actually serious, I shut up. After a few minutes of friendly conversation, a woman approached me.

"Excuse me, are you the representative from the Girl Scouts of America?"

I just stared at her, not actually knowing what to say. She took my hand and led me on to a separate bus. The bus was really nice, carpeted, bunks, TV, the works.

We sat down at a table and she began to speak.

"Hi, my name is Ms.Sharie, and I am here to explain your job. First off, you will be touring with the boys for the whole world tour, starting in a few days. Hotel arrangements have been made and your job is simple. All you have to do is sell Girl Scout cookies at all the concerts," she held up a box of thin mints with the BSB on the front and she handed it to me. "I need you to fill out some papers, so I will be back in a few minutes."

I just looked at her and she left. I started at the papers, not knowing what to think. My conscience was in an extreme battle. This was the opportunity of a life time! Getting to see the world and meet new people, whereas my other side was saying, are you fucking crazy? Selling Girl Scout cookies? What the hell is up with that? After much thought I realized I had nothing left back home, no money, and no where to go, so I quickly filled out the papers.

When Ms.Sharie came back, she was very surprised to find out I was 19.

"Your 19 and still a girlscout?"

"Uh, yeah, once a girlscout always a girlscout."

She led me towards the back of the bus and showed me to a bunk.

"This is your bunk. This is the only personal space you will have, so keep it clean. Also I was informed that you have no belongings with you. Why is that?"

"My grandmother's dog was hungry," I said without thinking. She gave me a very strange look but handed me a white envelope.

"This is a cash advance, spend it on what you like but it will be taken from your paycheck. Also, we will be in a city tomorrow so you will be able to go shopping."

I thanked her and she handed me a manilla envelope and left.

I got off the bus and started to wonder around until I saw Brain and he motioned for me to come and sit next to him.

"Hi," I said, shyly.

"Are you actually the girl who is selling cookies for us?"

"Umm..yea."

My face by that point was red with embarrassment.

"Hey, I just noticed something..." I began, "Howie kinda looks like a half cocker spaniel."

Brain just looked at me. I at least thought it was funny.

"Hey, you want to listen to music with me later?" he asked, almost shyly.

"Sure, I would like that a lot."

We arranged to meet at the next rest stop and we both went our separate ways to our buses.

I slowly made my way to my bunk, but I was greeted by a very weird looking brunette. Her face was oily and pimply, she had big dorky glasses, and absolutely no fashion sense. She looked at me for a second, before addressing me.

"Who are you?" she asked me rudely. She obviously had a lack of manners, also.

"My name is Michelle, and I am here because I am going to be interviewing you for an article about the ten worst dressed people in America," I told her, trying to act professional. "So, first question, how does it feel to be fashionably clueless?" She just glared at me and went back to her bunk.

When I heard the bus engine start, I found my bunk and went inside. Because I had no belongings, I got bored, fast. Before I knew it, I drifted into a fitful sleep.

"No! No!! Don't take my donuts!!!" I bolted up right and banged my head on the bunk. I immediately saw Brains concerned face.

"Dammit Brian! Don't scare me like that again!!"

"I'm sorry, when everyone else got off the bus and you didn't. I thought you got lost so I came looking for you," Brian said sweetly.

"What makes you think I got lost?" Well, if you are selling cookies for us, you are most than likely not very intellectual."

I just glared at him and pushed past him and out of the bus. It was nearly noon, so I was pretty hungry.

I walked in through the glass doors and into the crowded highway rest stop. I stuck my hand in my pocket to make sure my money was there, and before I could even look up I was kicked in the shin and dragged over by the telephones.

"What?!" was all my confused head would allow to come out of my mouth. I looked up to see Nick and his blowup doll Patunia hovering over me.

"What the hell was that for?" I screamed at Nick.

"Well, you see, Patunia told me she has a bit of a crush on you, and that made me jealous, so I kicked you," Nick told me.

"Man, all of you guys have problems," I brushed myself off and quickly walked over to the Burger King.

I ordered a milkshake, paid, and sat down. I was still mad about everything from Mercedes to Patunia.

"Hey, can I sit down?" Howie asked me.

"Ummm...sure." I told him.

"Hey, don't listen to Nick, the tour makes everyone go a little crazy."

"Why is everyone so mean to me?" I asked him, confused.

"Well, because you sell cookies for a living, that does not put you in a very respected position. Don't let everyone walk all over you and you will earn respect."

"Thanks, that helped."

After we finished eating we walked back to the bus.

"Hey, don't you guys have a free day tomorrow?" I asked him.

"Yeah, why?"

"Well, I was wondering of you would go shopping with me tomorrow." I asked him, almost in a rush.

"Yeah sure, I will meet you downstairs at eight OK?"

"Great," I told him and we went our separate ways.
