Chapter 13

“You weren’t kidding!” Nick exclaimed, stunned. He glanced at his new attire--a pair of blue swim trunks. Then he glanced at my attire. “Humina...” I must’ve looked better than I thought in my cloud-white two-piece.

“You’re staring,” I murmured gently.

“But...”

“People can see me now because I we’re still in Heaven. This is just the French Riviera in Heaven, I think. It’s the same geographical make-up as on Earth, but it’s all angels, and maybe a few charges here.”

“Charges?”

“You’re my charge. I look out for you. Other Guardians look out for their charges.” Nick nodded, understanding. “So, let’s go swimming!” I sprinted off to the beach. I’ve never been in water so warm.

“That’s the best time I’ve had in my life!!!” Nick laughed as we staggered back into my room. Tucker, still soaking wet, decided to dry himself off right in between me and Nick.

“AAAH!! Tucker!!” I shrieked, laughing. I sighed and collapsed onto my sofa. “So, what do you want to do now?”

Nick stopped suddenly. “Oh, great! I just spent the whole day with you! I had a photo shoot!”

“How long after when we came to Heaven?”

“Um, four hours.”

“Oh, we’re fine.” I quickly conjured a calculator again.

60 x 60=360

360 x 4=1320

1320/24=55

55/7=7.....

“We’ve got a little over seven weeks.”

“How late do you want to make me?!” Nick demanded. I couldn’t help it. I burst out laughing. “What’s so funny?”

“Nick, you are so cute,” I giggled. That didn’t clarify things any for him. “A second on earth translates to an hour here. So, in one hour on earth, there are 360 here. We have four hours, so that’s 1320 hours here. 24 hours in a day makes 55 days, which ends up as a little over seven weeks. Get it?”

“Oh.” I giggled again and kissed him. “So we can go to the French Riviera every day?” he inquired, holding me.

“We can go wherever you want every day,” I replied.

“I really want the guys to meet you.”

“Nick...”

“I know they won’t believe me, but they have to meet you.”

An idea hit me. “They don’t have to meet me.” Nick gave me a strange look. “They can meet my personality, but a different body. I can change the way I look.”

“Lucy, that’s great!” Nick exclaimed. “Are you sure you’re okay with that?”

I stopped to think it over. I had gotten used to my appearance; my dark blonde hair, my crystalline blue eyes, my full lips, my defined eyebrows, my chin... was I really willing to change it for a guy? No, it wasn’t just any guy. It was my charge. Anyway, I could just change it back if I wanted.

I conjured a mirror. “Yeah, I’m sure.” I started changing.
