Chapter 2

"TEN MINUTES?! Are you insane?! Even I can’t read this fast!!!!" I shrieked furiously, gesturing irately to the huge manuscript sitting in front of me. "You actually want me--you!--I can’t believe!--you actually expect me to read this whole book in TEN MINUTES?! Jeez, you must have his whole LIFE in this thing!!" I squawked.

Actually, we do. I slapped a hand to my forehead.

"Why me?" I muttered uselessly. "Why.... me?" Groaning resignedly, I conjuered a big, red velvet couch strewn with huge silver throw pillows, a plate of cookies accompanied by a tall glass of milk, and a golden retriever.

What’s the dog for? Grandpa inquired curiously.

"Well, I always wanted a golden, and I can conjure one, so I conjured one. Grandpa, meet Tucker."

Pleased to meet you, Tucker. Take care of my granddaughter for me when she’s on her assignment, okay? Tucker barked happily and jumped up onto the couch. Dogs off the furniture.

"Grandpa," I began exasperatedly as Tucker meekly slunk off the couch. "This is my room, isn’t it?" I felt a sigh of resignation and I gestured for Tucker to go back on the couch if he wanted. He happily scrambled up and promptly rested his blonde head on one of the silk pillows. "My room, my rules. Tucker, those cookies are mine. Don’t even think about it, dog." He sighed heavily and edged his way down to the other end of the sofa. "Good boy. Grandpa, if you don’t mind, I have a lot of reading to do. Mmmm..." I whimpered. "And ten minutes to do it in."

Ten Earth minutes, Grandpa said. You have approximately 25 Heavenly days. See, a second on Earth translates to an hour in Heaven.

"Okay..." I muttered, scratching my head. I conjured a calculator.

60 x 10 = 600

"That’s the number of hours, right?"

Right.

"So..."

600 / 24 = 25

"25 days. That’s better. Wait..."

Yes, you are confined to your room until you finish. Angels don’t need to sleep, though.

"Okay. I’ll just get to reading." I looked at the title. "Volume One of 19?!"
