"What do I do then?" I played with Tucker’s leash anxiously.
"But what if he doesn’t get deja vu? What if he just starts looking for Tucker?"
Then Tucker will eventually show himself. Proceed as planned.
"Okay."
Here he comes.
I swallowed hard and inhaled. "Tucker? Tucker! Come here, boy! Tucker!!"
"Is something wrong?" Nick inquired politely. "Can I help?"
Showtime, I thought. I worked up some plausible tears and turned around. "My dog... Tucker. I don’t know what happened.
One minute he was on his leash," I sniffled, showing the dogless lead, "and then...." I turned away, wiping my eyes.
Nick gently put his hands on my shoulders. "Calm down. We’ll find him. What kind of dog is he? Did you say his name is
Tucker?"
I sighed and ran a hand though my long blonde hair. "Yeah. He’s Tucker. He’s a golden." I quested around for that bothersome
dog. "Tucker!"
"TUCKER!" Nick boomed. "Here, boy! Come here, Tucker!" Nick began hunting in the bushes. I studied him curiously. He
had never seen me before, yet he was searching for a dog he didn’t know like it was his own. "TUCKER? Tucker!"
No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. She can’t fall in love with him. Grandpa wrung his hands together as he peered into
the Watching Cloud. She’s going to get hurt if she falls in love with him! You’ve got to do something.
YOU KNOW WE CAN’T INTERFERE WITH THIS STUFF. SHE HAS TO FIGURE IT OUT FOR HERSELF HOW SHE
WANTS TO HANDLE IT. IF SHE WANTS TO GET TRULY EMOTIONALLY INVOLVED, LET HER. IT’S THE HARD
WAY, BUT I’VE ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU LEARN MORE THAT WAY.
Are you sure?
HAVE I EVER LET YOU DOWN BEFORE?
Grandpa sighed anxiously. When you’re right, you’re right.
I’VE NEVER BEEN WRONG BEFORE.
There’s a first time for everyone, Sir.
