Poems

These poems are from my forthcoming book 'Turbulent Emotions'.

Re-Born
A poem for Daniel,
Stillborn, August 15th 1998

Although I'll never hear you cry,
Hear you laugh,
Or hear you sigh,
I will always remember your peaceful face,
As you ascended into Gods embrace.

You lived within in,
Made me whole,
But now you're within my aching soul,
Where now I know you'll always be,
Deep inside, part of me.

Morning

It's here
The day you
Leave my body

It's here
Dawn
Birds sing in inoccent bliss
I prepare for your death

It's here
The moment I wash my body for the last time
With you inside me

It's here
I wish it was not
Today I give you up,
Abandon you
My body rejecting your body

It's here

You are not

Morning has broken

My heart is broken

Our life...........broken

Mother Love

My Mother of love
I have not left you,
I am here within
To help you through

Though my crib is empty
Please don't cry anymore
You are stronger now,
I'm deep inside you, within your core

You'll never here my voice
But I hear your lamenting cries
All the questions that you ask,
All the unanswered WHYS?

You kneel at my graveside
Flowers so fresh, so sweet
I feel your aching longing
As you wish it was ME you greet

I see your yearning vacant womb,
Where I should this day be living,
I know you throb with bitter sadness
As a life you should be giving

But,
I am alive,
Within this space,
I am in every fibre of your love,
The love you feel is me,
I am your mother love!!!

Young love
(A poem for Sam)

Large with love, he looks at me,
Reaching for my hand,
A day at playschool with pictures painted,
and fingernails clogged with sand.

He beams so brightly as we walk home,
chatting about his busy day,
Carboard models, sticky with glue,
"Here mummy, this is for you!"

We get back to our safe abode,
He snuggles up close to me,
"Can I please play the gameboy,
Can we have nuggets for tea?"

I watch him as he climbs the stairs,
He stumbles to the top,
I hear him clattering around,
His excitement will never stop

Sleeping son
(A poem for Billy)

I watch him as he soundly sleeps
lashes flickering as he dreams.
Hair matted at his scalp,
breathing is light, calm.
He is safe in the hands of sleep, but will life be kind to him?

His arms extended above his head,
fists clenched gently,
legs splayed in innocent bliss
skin like marble, cool and soft.
I reach down and stroke my angels brow

As he stirs, I step back
afraid I have spoiled his dear dreams
but he smiles gently, calls my name,
and returns to his journey of sleep.
I watch as slumber wraps its shroud around his tiny body once more.

His hair the colour of thistledown
lies like wispy cobwebs along his forehead
slightly damp from where he had lain before
His knees curled up underneath
as though protecting himself from the dangers life may throw to him.

I kiss his cheek
and walk towards to the door
praying that god will protect this infant
I reach extending my arm as if to touch him
remembering his warm skin on my fingertips.

What Makes A Mother
Author Unknown

I thought of you and closed my eyes
and prayed to God today
I asked "What makes a Mother?"
and I know I heard Him say

"A Mother has a baby"
This we know is true
"But, God, can you be a Mother
When your baby's not with you?"

"Yes, you can" He replied
With confidence in His voice
"I give many women babies
When they leave is not their choice

Some I send for a lifetime
And others for a day
And some I send to feel your womb
But there's no need to stay"

"I just don't understand this, God
I want my baby here"
He took a breath and cleared His throat
And then I saw a tear

"I wish that I could show you
What your child is doing today
If you could see your child smile
With other children and say

'We go to Earth to learn our lessons
Of love and life and fear
My Mommy loved me oh so much
I got to come straight here.

I feel so lucky to have a Mom
Who had so much love for me
I learned my lesson very quickly
My Mommy set me free

I miss my Mommy oh so much
But I visit her each day
When she goes to sleep
On her pillow's where I lay

I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek
And whisper in her ear
Mommy, don't be sad today
I'm your baby and I'm here'

"So you see my dear sweet one
Your children are okay
Your babies are in My home
And this is where they'll stay

They'll wait for you with Me
Until our lesson is through
And on the day that you come home
They'll be at the gates for you

So now you see what makes a Mother
It's the feeling in your heart
It's the love you had so much of
Right from the very start

Though some on Earth may not realize
you are a Mother
Until their time is done
They'll be up here with Me one day
And know you're the best one!"
