Directions:Complete two of the following experiments:
1. THE CHARGED COMB
Charge a comb by rubbing it with a piece of felt. Do not use the comb in your hair.
Go to the sink and turn on a small stream of water.
Place the comb near the water.
What do you observe? What happens when the comb touches the water?
2. THE FLORESCENT TUBE
Go to a dark room for this activity.
Take a florescent tube and a plastic bag.
Rub the tube with the plastic bag. Rub vigorously but without pressure. Too much pressure will break the tube. *Note: Use extreme caution with the fluorescent tube.
What do you observe?
3. TWO BALLOONS
Blow up two balloons and tie the ends.
Tie a string to each balloon so they can hang together but are not touching.
Charge the entire surface of both the balloons by rubbing them with cloth or against your clothing. Let the balloons hang from the strings.
