Field Trips 2001-2002
· We took a tour of the Wa'ianae Coast on The Bus to learn more about the community we live in and ended the day with a visit to our local Public Library.
· We visited Pearlridge Shopping Center to learn about many jobs, saw a super Sand Sculpture display. Santa Claus stopped by and sang us Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer! We had a First Grade picnic at Blaisdell Park in Pearl City.
· We loved the Honolulu Theatre for Youth Play Rikki Tiki Tavi. B2 and P17 put on our own play Beatrix Potter1s Tale of Peter Rabbit complete with live music, costumes, songs and sign language!
· We took a Dolphin Cruise out of the Wa'ianae Boat Harbor. We saw pods of Spinner Dolphins!
Assemblies
· Once Ronald McDonald came to our school to talk about Respect and Responsibility. He even surprised our class with a visit!
· Baba B, a Hawaiian singer from Wa'ianae, and JSmooth, a popular local disc jockey, came to our
school to talk about keeping Drug Free.
· The Wa'ianae Fire Fighters showed us their new fire trucks and talked about Fire Safety.
· The National Guard also visited our school. The helicopter landing on the outfield was very exciting!
Other Highlights
· Ma'ili's Fun Fair was held in December. First Grade sold Li Hing Popcorn and Spam Musubis earning money for classroom materials. We also participated in Foodland's Shop for Better Education Program.
· We had Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Every student in the class got FREE books!
We participated in the Pizza Hut Book-It Program and earned a class Pizza Party!
· We really enjoyed our weekly visits to our Fifth Grade Buddies in D5. We did Fun Runs together. We read together, did creative crafts, had a scavenger hunt, ate together and always had lots of FUN! At Ma'ili, we are an Ohana (Family)!
· On May 19th, the First Graders helped to clean up Ma'ili Beach Park
· Our May Celebration was held on May 28th . We sang Hokule1a by Leon and Malia!
