Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Xander Harris on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Newcomer Nicholas Brendon, who portrays the sardonic Xander with sensitivity and humor, already has an impressive list of credits in television, film and theatre. With his aspirations of playing professional baseball quashed when an arm injury cut his sports career short, he turned to the acting game for a new challenge. Soon after, he made his television debut in a Clearasil commercial. Yet, as roles were few and far between, he persevered in entertainment and switched to the other side of the camera, working as a television production assistant on "Dave's World." When he nailed an audition for a guest-starring role on the series, Brendon gained the confidence he needed and continued to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Fate soon smiled upon him and he was called in to audition for the role in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." In television, he had a recurring role on the daytime soap opera "The Young and the Restless," and starred in the pilot "Secret Lives." He played an evil corn follower in the feature film "Children of the Corn III-Urban Harvest," and starred in Los Angeles theatre productions of "The Further Adventures of Tom Sawyer" at Theatre West, "My Own Private Hollywood" at The Black Hole Theatre and "Out of Gas on Lovers' Leap" at the Pasadena Playhouse. Offsreen, the Los Angeles native enjoys basketball, camping and spending quality time with friends and family, including his identical twin brother, Kelly, with whom he shares a home.

Willow Rosenberg on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" In "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Alyson Hannigan plays a shy wallflower who becomes Buffy's friend and confidante. In real life, Hannigan is a veteran actress who has been performing since the age of four. During the series' hiatus, she filmed the Paramount/MTV Films feature "Dead Man on Campus," starring Tom Everett Scott. She began her career in Atlanta doing commercials, working steadily in national spots for companies like McDonald's, Six Flags Amusement Parks and Oreo cookies. When Hannigan was 11, she moved to Los Angeles in hopes of breaking into film and television. Her breakthrough role came when she was cast as Dan Aykroyd's misunderstood daughter in the feature film "My Stepmother Is an Alien." She went on to guest star on a number of popular television shows, including "Picket Fences," "Roseanne" and "Touched by an Angel." She was a recurring guest star on the series "Almost Home" and a series regular on "Free Sprit." In her free time, the Washington, D.C. native and Dr. seuss fan likes to surf the web, practice kick-boxing and spend time with her dogs and cats. She currently resides in Los Angeles.

A veteran of film and stage, Seth Green has been acting professionally since age six. By the time he was twelve, he had a leading role in the Woody Allen's feature film "Radio Days." Since then he has starred in numerous television and film projects, including "Austin Powers:International Man of Mystery", "the X-Files", and "Stephen King's It." Green began his role as Oz on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in 1997. Joss Whedon, the show's creator told green, "Oz would have the same reaction to spray cheese as to true love," says Green. "Oz is unflappable and I love being the guitar player on TV, I'm living out my rock and roll fantasy." Four episodes turned into five, then eight, and now it's endless. "The show is so fun and quirky but there's a lot of heart to it, that's what's so appealing," describes Green. "It's smart, scary, and funny." As for playing a werewolf Green says, "They take their monsters pretty seriously without the show taking itself too seriously." And the transformation? "It takes a lot of time and it's really difficult to stand still," says Green. "It starts at 11:30am until 4:30pm They have to hand lay all of the hair on me, but the make-up artists there are so great, so sweet and considerate. They make it as painless as possible and the end result is worth the effect." What does Green do when he's not starring in films and on television? "I read a ton of magazines, I play pool, I love to see any movie that's out, good or bad. The one bad thing about working," laments Green, "you can't watch all the movies."

The Simpsons

Befuddled nuclear inspector As safety inspector in sector 7G at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, Homer's main responsibilities include Snack Machine Monitoring, Clock Watching, Inner-Eyelid Study and Pastry Malfunction Prevention. As doting father for his family, Homer's main responsibilities include Couch Patrol, Underwear Distribution and Carpet Debris Production. A devoted husband, Homer leaves his wife with few complaints. When pressed, however, Marge did once acknowledge to a marriage counselor that Homer "forgets birthdays, anniversaries, holidays (both religious and secular), chews with his mouth open, hangs out at a seedy bar with bums and lowlifes, blows his nose in the towel and puts them back in the middle, and scratches himself with his keys." Despite these few foibles, Homer loves his family, and he’ll do just about anything to prove it — even if that means making himself look foolish. Homer works at Springfield’s nuclear power plant as a safety inspector, a job he secured after passing the specialized training course on his third attempt. Once during a strike, Homer’s critical functions could be filled only by a brick placed on a lever. Homer also was voted Springfield Nuclear Power Plant Toxic Waste Handler of the Month in October 1990. Homer’s favorite book and/or pamphlet is "So, You’ve Decided To Steal Cable," which also happens to be the most recent book and/or pamphlet he has read. When he’s not reading, Homer enjoys drinking beer, at home or in a bar. His favorite haunts include Moe’s Tavern, Greasy Joe’s Bar-B-Q Pit, Gulp ‘N’ Blow, and The Frying Dutchman, which he almost put out of business on its "All You Can Eat Night." Since then, Homer’s picture has hung in the restaurant, where he’s known as "Bottomless Pete: Nature’s Cruelest Mistake." Sometimes frustrated at being fat and bald, Homer enjoys flashbacks now and again, which show him fat with a full head of hair. Two things, though, always remain constant for Homer, no matter what happens to him: his happy-go-lucky nature and his love for Marge and his kids.

Height: 8'1" (in stocking feet) Marge's responsibilities include Homer Snuggling, Cupcake Baking, Over-Worrying, Perpetual Cleaning, TV Violence Crusading, Diaper Changing and Unbearable Mothering. Marge is the putty that just barely holds the Simpson family together week after week. By sensibly drawing the line at such frivolous expenses as an electric garage door opener and changes of clothing for her children, Marge manages to stretch Homer’s modest salary to cover the tremendous costs incurred by a family of the 90s: Homer’s beer and donut supply, and such necessary expenses as a day trip to India to meet the owner of the Kwik-E Mart Corporation. However, Marge doesn’t just bake cookies and stand by her man. She has been on both sides of the thin blue line. Not only has she served in Springfield’s police department for a short while, but with her freewheeling neighbor Ruth Powers, she has gone on a high-speed consciousness-raising adventure, even outwitting and outrunning Police Chief Wiggum himself. Before leaving that job, Marge bravely accused plant owner Montgomery Burns of sexual harassment. Unfortunately, Marge’s attorney, Lionel Hutz, threw in the towel when he was told that Mr. Burns’ lawyer owned suits with matching jackets and pants. Marge’s one extravagance is having her tall blue hair done twice a day. Her hair does come in handy, however, as it enables the Simpsons to locate one another easily when they visit an amusement park or zoo.

Neglected, politically correct prodigy For: Pony rights, Vegetarianism, The Corey Hotline, Longer school days Against: Meat, Universal Injustice, Malibu Stacey, Whacking Day, Laramie Cigarettes Mentor: The late Bleeding Gums Murphy Lisa Simpson takes after both her parents: she has Marge’s common sense, hard work ethic and sympathy for others: She has Homer’s last name. Lisa’s enormous intelligence and moral authority place her in a unique position in the Simpson family — and, for that matter, Springfield at large. Each parents’ night at Springfield Elementary, Homer and Marge fight to meet with Lisa’s teachers rather than Bart’s on the theory that being offered a tin of cookies as thanks is less "upsetting" and "costly" than reviewing quarterly property damage assessments for melted playground equipment. A devoted vegetarian, this second grader also plays the saxophone with the virtuosity, if not stubble, of Springfield’s late blues great, Bleeding Gums Murphy. For the record, Lisa says she watches TV only for "The MacNeil-Lehrer Report" — particularly since it expanded to one hour — and any "Masterpieciece Theater" serialization of wordy British novels. In truth, however, she is always willing to interrupt a piercing "MacNeil-Lehrer" roundtable whenever her beloved "Itchy & Scratchy" cartoons are on TV. Her deep love for cartoon characters proves that, no matter how precocious she may be, Lisa is still a Simpson.

Perpetual infant Natural Habitat: From the floor to 24" above the floor; anything present in this zone is fair game for yanking, coloring, ingesting or covering with various fluids. Prized Possession: Neglecto-brand Pacifier, Model #S423, medium nipple Collected Speeches: "Daddy!" Motto: "Sucksuck... suck." Over the years, we’ve watched Maggie grow from a cute pacifier-sucking infant into a cute pacifier-sucking infant who’s said her first word, "Daddy." Having learned one new word in five years, Maggie places just behind Bart and slightly ahead of Homer in vocabulary development. For an infant who can neither talk nor walk with any consistency, Maggie nonetheless leads an exciting and rewarding life. She is perhaps proudest of the baby escape she led at the Springfield Daycare Center. Maggie is almost always in a good mood, although once she did develop a rivalry with the mysterious one-eyebrowed baby who lives down the street. Angry pacifier sucks were exchanged.

Ten-year-old menace Aliases: El Barto, Bartman Things Bart has Destroyed: -Statue of Jebediah Springfield -Sideshow Bob's career in crime -The conspiracy against Krusty the Clown -Lisa's Thanksgiving centerpiece -Springfield Elementary's learning environment -The Roger Meyers Studio, producers of Itchy & Scratchy -Mrs. Krabappel's will to live Bart is the most misunderstood Simpson. He is constantly frustrated by the narrow-minded people of Springfield who judge him merely by his thoughts and actions. At heart, he's just a good kid with a few bad ideas and one or two that are still being reviewed by the Springfield district attorney. Basically, Bart is no different from any ordinary fourth grader. He enjoys skateboarding, bubble gum, caring for his pet elephant, appearing on the "Conan O'Brien Show" and singlehandedly bringing a homicidal TV sidekick to justice, twice. Bart rides an academic roller coaster, his grades running the loop-the-loop from F to D-, and back again. But he can be ingenious when the chips are down — as long as his ingenuity is never applied to anything school-related. He even learned portions of the Talmud to help reunite his idol, Krusty the Clown, with Krusty's father, Rabbi Krustofski. Perhaps more than anything else, Bart's first words as a baby provide a window into his character: "Ay, Carumba!" — as true today as they were when first uttered.

The X-Files

David Duchovny returns to The X-Files for another season THE ARTS REPORT - CBC Radio LOS ANGELES - David Duchovny has signed on for another season as FBI agent Fox Mulder in the TV drama series, The X-Files. David Duchovny had been wrangling over his contract and a lawsuit he filed in connection with the show. Duchovny's announcement came yesterday just as Fox TV was about to unveil its schedule for the fall. Duchovny had been seeking a less gruelling work schedule as well as more money. He will not appear in every episode for the upcoming season. The negotiations with Duchovny had been complicated by his lawsuit against 20th Century Fox Film Corp. The suit claimed Fox gave its own stations sweetheart deals on reruns of The X-Files when the program should have been sold to the highest bidder. The result, the suit alleged, was that Duchovny was underpaid on the series' profits. The actor had said he wouldn't return to the show unless the suit was settled. Chris Carter, the show's creator, also made a last-minute deal with Fox TV to continue for another season. Gillian Anderson, who co-stars in The X-Files as fellow agent Scully, has already signed for another year.
