Tobias walked calmly over to Rachel. He was human and felt odd and unnatural. That scared him. was he forgetting how to be human? But, he knew, the greater question was 'Was he human?'.
Tobias pushed the uninviting thoughts out of his head. he should be focusing on Rachel. Sweet beautiful Rachel. He should be enjoying his limited time with her. Yes, he should enjoy himself. After all it was Christmas.
Rachel breathed deeply. the scent of her perfume whirled around her. he was happy for a change. She was purely giddy. It was the happiest day of the year and she was spending it with Tobias. Her heart leapt as he walked over to her.
"It's been awhile since I've seen you human. I miss you Tobias." Tobias smiled. It was a sad smile. A smile that almost brought tears to Rachel's eyes. No Rachel. Be strong. You aren't weak. You have to be strong.
"I brought you a gift. Nothing so great but it was the best i could do. It's not worthy of you. But then again neither am I." Tobias said.
"Now Tobias your wo..." Rachel started but before she could finish Tobias whipped out the most beautiful anklet Rachel had ever seen.
"Tobias..." She said her voice choking, "this must of cost you a small fotune." Her jaw was wide open until she flicked it into a smile of delight and leaned forward giving Tobias a passionate kiss.
"Rachel please," tobias said pulling away, "The truth is I sort of," he blushed "found it. A hiker must have dropped it. I'm not worthy of your love. I shouldn't have given you this phony old present."
"Oh Tobias! I don't care if it cost a penny or a million. Anything from you is more than I could ask for."
"Still..I should have gotten you something. You don't deserve some old hand me down. What can I give you?"
"All I want from you is for you to be human again. Permanetly." She said and turned away. Now it was all she could do to keep the tears from flowing down.
"Rachel please!" Tobias shouted despration in his tone. "You can't expect to give up the fight"
"Why not why the hell not Tobias? Screw the fight. What about me? Why can't I be happy! Why did Elfangor have to pick us? Why?"
"Rachel please! Get a hold of yourself! It's Christmas!"
"Well Merry Christmas! Now goodbye Tobias!" She shouted. She was mad she was furious. More furious then she had ever been before. She didn't know she could be this mad at Tobias.
"Goodbye? But I have another hour in morph."
"No Tobias goodbye good bye forever go. Leave me alone. Don't stop by here anymore. leave! I'll see you at Animorphs meetings. But that's it! You hear me that's it!" The rage in her voice was such that Tobias backed away. Slowly at first but then he began to run. He ran. And as he ran something happened to him that hadn't happened to him for years. He cried. He cried and cried and cried. He cried his Christmas tears.
