OK-here is word-for-word the email i got from him when I asked him to describe the Shelter.. CD
Hey, nice to hear someone likes the album, and sure i can describe it for you.
First of all, I should start out by saying that all of the work on it dates from before 96 or before, with the exception of one or two tracks (The second, "Sleep" is the only track recorded in 1998) It is really a kind of best-of thing from three other projects that span from when i was about 16 or 17 to about 21. they are, in order of time : Skin-"Skin",Skin-"Home",Vein-"Aphyte",Skin-"S/E" and Heyzeus Jesus. Mostly, listening to the majority of the work and comparing it with my current efforts, I see more energy than maturity. I think that is only natural when describing anything done in youth. Some warnings, however: 'The Rapist' is done tongue-in-cheek, in the voice of a rapist, none of the things i said there are meant to be my own words, also the production is almost all on four-track or live, done in two or three takes, and is therefore not spectacular, but it almost is fitting. You know, kinda' like the Misfits' albums. Also, the piece called "Beaten" is a tribute to John Cage, not an attempt to emulate Einstuizende or whoever. All the artwork is original, the Cover is a painting I did in late 97, and the inner sleeve is from a collage i did for that particular purpose. Everything on the CD is written by me, all the instuments are played by me, and it was all recorded and produced by me-with the exception of "The Gopher" which features my brother Rob Garza on bass, and the live tracks, which of course contain the efforts of other musicians.
