Your tank should have a basking area, swiming area, and a filter. For starters I recomend a 20 gallon long tank. The swiming area should be at least 2 times deeper than the the turtle's carapace (top shell)(to increase the swiming area), or another way is, so the turtle can be standing on the bottom with it's hind feet and can stick it's head out of the water. The basking area should be lighted by a 40-60 W bulb, it should be easy accesible for the turtle, and should not be left on for more than 12 hours. If your a turtle owner you should have a filter (unless you like to clean it every 1-2 days. I use a Fluval 3, you can use a 2-3-4 of all the Fluval filters. And one more thing, you should have a submersible heater in your tank, set it to 75-80 degree's F, it help's to keep the turtles immune system working properly. Another good idea is...if you have a extra smaller tank or container of some sort...feed your turtles in that, it will help keep the tank cleaner. And after their done all you have to do is dump the dirty water into a toilet. And when the next feeding time comes...do the same.
