Martha's 2000 Journal

June: Florida to New England

6/18 First stop is Charleston, NC, and a visit to Fort Sumpter, a dream of Bob's for a long time. Quite a view of the harbor from the walls of the fort.

There sould be a picture here. If there isn't, please let us know so we can fix it.

The fort was two stories at the outbreak of the Civil War but Union naval artillery reduced it to one story and three walls at the end.

The tall ships were in the harbor, but it was too hot to pay $15 to stand in line, so we will catch them later. They will be in Philadelphia and Halifax, Nova Scotia and so will we.
