Some B/A fans say Buffy and Xander do not have any chemistry so a quick set of photos for you:

Well done DGH! There's so much passion in everything they do. Take DMP and Revelations as examples. Buffy and Angel never got near those levels when they argued. The Sexy Dance, well it weren't called sexy for nothing.
I think the lack of chemistry stuff is just their way of objecting to anything that undermines the B/A thing. The whole B/A thing was kind of poetic; she's the slayer, he's a vampire. A lot of people will miss that, and they'll say anything to get it back.
I gotta admit, I wouldn't mind seeing angel back in a year, if for no other reason than to throw a spanner in the works of the B/X thing (assuming it happens this year).
The lack of chemistry idea/arguement comes down to the fact they see so much chemistry, deep down they know it's inevitable. Xander's therefore the biggest threat to B/A, so they dismiss him and Buffy together. It's typical of the whole "Xander doesn't deserve Buffy, he belongs with Willow" arguement. Since when did Willow deserve less than Buffy?
Thats a good point but the way u said it brings up the question
Since when does buffy deserve more than willow?
She shouldnt get less.
I must admit that after seeing those photos i've dropped my opinion, i guess i just havent seen the show for a while and i forgot all about the hug in the Phases or which ever one it was. Those photos jogged my memory, they do make a better couple than b/a okay u made me change my mind b/x
My favorite B/A arguement is that Buffy needs someone who can protect her not be protected.
Since Xander has saved Buffy more times the Angel, killed more monsters then Angel, saved more people then Angel and been saved by Buffy less then Angel, this one I have always found funny.
Yeah, Angel's a wimp. I hardly remember a time when his ass hasn't been kicked. Buffy is the one that has to protect him while he's next to useless for her. I reckon PG was supossed to be the first sign of that. What with Xander rescuing Buffy while Angel stood by helpless.
I am an admitted die-hard B/Aer and I must say that we're talking generalizations here. Of course, there are always exceptions.
I think B/X have great chemistry. If ya wanna flame me, I also thing S/B have great chemistry. I just happen to think B/A have the best chemistry.
I've always loved B/A and I'll always love B/A. But I'll admit there was a time I looked forward to seeing Buffy with Xander. That is, before he was such a prick (sorry, that's just my opinion.) Don't get me wrong. I like Xander well enough. And there are sparks there. If Joss makes it happen, fine. I'm cool with it.
I just don't think it'll last. Again, my opinion. I'm not trying to convert any B/Xers to my way of thinking, I'm just stating what I think as a B/Aer. I'd much rather see her with Xander than this Riley guy anyway. They have history, but then I guess that's what it's building up to, if it happens.
For the record, I love Willow and Xander together. But I also like Oz and Willow together. Anya's not a fav. character of mine, but I read that she'll be giving a little comfort to Xander in the new season, so I'll make sure to keep my eyes open. But as for the "typical 'Xander doesn't deserve Buffy, he belongs with Willow'" argument, I'd only say that cause in the beginning Willow had loved him for soooo long. And then he realized he loved her too. Now, they were caught up in other partners, but in some ways W/X seem so right together. It's not that she deserves less than Buffy, it's that they both deserve true love. Whomever their respective true loves may be.
And no, I'm not gonna get in a true love debate when I know so many people don't believe in it.
As for the "someone she doesn't need to protect." Well, I guess some B/Aers are so caught up in B/A that they don't really notice Xander and only look at him for his "I laugh in the face of danger, then I run and hide" exterior. He's brave, I'll give him that. But I'm not down with that argument. Maybe they apply it to Xander, I just think it means she doesn't need to be with someone who can't at least take care of himself. Which Xander does. As proven especially in The Zeppo.
What it all boils down to, and yes I'm making a generalized statement on behalf of the B/Aers out there, is that Buffy and Angel are so right together. Sure, there are many reasons they shouldn't be together. And sure, he's got his own show now. But that's mixing your reality with fantasy (at least the latter is). B/Aers see them for the characters that they are. Characters who have fought to be together and no matter what's torn them apart, they've always come back together. It's an epic romance, not your normal everyday type. Together, they're a force of nature. As Joss said, Angel's the only other character who's larger then life, like Buffy.
Any time you refer to a group of people you unfortunately have to make generalization.
I in no way see B/A as epic romance they are not they are more Like Grace and her ex an abusive couple that needs to be separated.
Epic to me means over coming obstacles to be together that fits B/X not B/A.
B/A is just teen lust. They know almost nothing about each other. It is by far the most shallow relationship on the show.
On the issue of Angel being a wimp, my realization of this fact was Prophecy Girl.
He KNEW Buffy was destined to be killed by the Master that night, and instead of TRYING to do something about it (and trying to save the world at the same time) he decided to stay at home. I found this a cowardly act, especially if she was the woman he loved.
Xander and Giles were both willing to fight the Master, and at LEAST try to protect Buffy but Angel just wanted to stay home. He eventually left after Xander convinced him to try and help Buffy, but doesn't that illustrate who cares more?
On Buffy and Angel being a force of nature, they were a good couple for the first 2 seasons but I was personally getting a little bored with the whole angst-filled Buffy/Angel thing. Again, just opinion but it was starting to get stale.
If Xander took the hug in PHASES to be oriented that way, it was the wrong impression and the wrong time! She needed a friend hug, not a romantic one.
BBB doesn't count..the words love spell mean anything? Even the lunch lady wanted Xander...
I think Buffy and Xander have great chemistry, but moreso as friends! I'm hoping more for the brief romantic fling than back to friends...
While some of those could be interpreted as such, but those are photo shoots, not the show. Doesn't really count on just how they look together in a picture.
In fact, romantic tension seems to have decreased between them this year. And moved more towards a closer friendship.
Acathla, I know you're probably long gone, but this Brother/Sister, friends love you've go on about, well.. You Wish. Xander will never just want to be friends with Buffy, and just because he didn't spend the whole of the 3rd season declaring his undying love, doesn't mean his feelings have changed. It's just that there wouldn't have been any point. On the face of it Buffy choose Angel, and there was nothing he could do. I also feel he was extremely hurt by Buffy's leaving. It explains his actions up to Amends where they sorted stuff out, in an unspoken way. Later in the season his real feelings have come out. (Lust in "Earshot" and love through all of "Graduation".
And some things that are romantic do not generate chemistry. The point though was that Nick and Sarah have no problem generating chemistry. If I was trying for romantic other scenes are available.
As for Phases the skript says:
They continue to HUG. A little too long. They pull apart a bit and look at each other.
BUFFY: Xander--
Uh-oh.
BUFFY (cont'd): Thanks.
Xander smiles. Finally, they break. Buffy composes herself.
BUFFY (cont'd): Well. I've got a lot to do tonight.
XANDER: Yeah.
BUFFY: I should probably go do it.
She heads out. Xander watches after her, then follows, MUMBLING and SHAKING HIS HEAD.
XANDER: Oh, no. My life's not too complicated...
A little to long and uh-oh seams to indicate more then just friendship. It should also be pointed out that this is the same episode as with the punch in the arm.
BBB Buffy is more affected then anyone but Willow, trashes Cordelia in the beginning and says there is hope for you at the end with a poster that says opportunity in the background.
Buffy and Xander have always had friendship the question is can they take it beyond that.
