In the links below can be found my interpretation of the development of the Buffy/Xander relationship through the three seasons. It's quite detailed, but I could have added WAY more if I had the time. I'm also a bit slow on season 3, I'm in the U.K and have had to rely on transcripts mainly and a few downloaded clips that I've seen, aswell as word of mouth. But they're starting to show it over here now, so I'll add more as I see the episodes if I've missed anything. Cant wait to find out what goes on in season four though, all you in the U.S are sooo lucky.
Season 2 here The most B/X friendly season of them all so far. Things didn't start too well, but they began to get closer, especially after Inca Mummy Girl, the point I feel Buffy's feelings began to change. From here up to Becoming, many of their infamous `moments` were shared. But then the return of Angel damaged everything they'd built up since Surprise.
Season 3 here Complex, is what you'd sum up this season as. Resentment and unfamiliarity with situations, implicit jealousy, not knowing true feelings, speaking the unspeakable, drifting apart aswell as getting closer, it was all found here. Signs towards the end of Xander taking Angel's place were also exhibited, as well as it being shown how wrong Angel was/is for Buffy. (Though this has been shown in all three seasons, and Joss has said that they are 100% wrong for each other much to the uproar of a LOT of B/A'ers)
Well, they've had their ups and not too long ago a lot of downs, but through it all there's been loads of evidence that their coupling is slowly, but surely being built.
Does that mean I think it will ever happen? Well maybe, maybe not. If I just based my thoughts on what has happened on the show, I'd say definitely yes. But other factors will affect it, and seeing as I usually back losers, (from my local football team to the national one) i'd probably say no. Shame.
Anyway, whatever happens I hope Joss gets to tell the story how HE wanted to originally and doesn't just give in to the demands of a load of angry B/A'ers, if that's not how he really wanted the show to end. (You know what I'm talking about.)
Well, here they are. Please read them, even if you hate the B/X idea; as it does show the gradual evolution of feelings between the two, the factors that show how good they'd be together, the potential chemistry they have, and my whole `soulmates` theory.
