Character background: Renata was the only daughter of Martha and Douglas Langston. Both were prominent educators in the south--her mother, Martha, an Honor English and Literature teacher at one of Atlanta’s most prestigious preparatory high school, her father, Douglas, a professor of History at Clark Atlanta University. The couple gave their only child the best of everything--the best education, the best environment, the best family life—allowing Renata to reap the benefit of their hard work so their daughter would growing up better than they did. Thus, Renata was well on her way to achieving a social stature that most African American children only dream about, that was until one fateful summer night when she was 13 and her life as she knew it was forever changed.
It was her 13th birthday and her father had planned her wildest dream come true--a weekend trip to Manhathan island, dinner at a swanky New York restaurant and her favorite Broadway play--everything was going so well, until her family was attacked by some kind of Hollywood creation.
Her parents were slaughter and Renata (who was found in a separate location than that of her dead parents) was drained of nearly every ounce of blood in her body, slipped into a coma and was believe to be a lost cause.
Renata would have surely followed her parents into the afterlife had it not been for the horrifying images of the beast that nearly killed her, haunting her nightmare and snatching her from not only the brink of death, but from her deathlike sleep as well. When she awoke, the doctors were puzzled that the young fragile girl had survived at all. Unfortunately, she had no memory of who she was or what happened to her.
With no identification, there was no one to claim her, so Renata became a ward of New York State and was place in the care of New York City’s Division of Youth and Family Services. There, she was shipped from group home to foster home and from foster home to group home. Renata suffered many a countless beatings from the other kids and several violent violation of her person.
When Renata turned 18 and was off on her own, she vowed that she would never again be at the mercy of someone else’s whim. She learned to fight and became skilled in several different kinds of martial arts and is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Now she is a cop for the NYPD, that was until another fateful event, a trip to The Collectors Lair took her life in a direction she never thought possible. She gave up her mortality for the dream of something she has never had before—a family.
Personality: Renata is a loner. She is distrustful of everyone and everything since the day she was “placed”. Growing up in the New York City foster care system taught her that only the strong survive, so strong is the only image she projects to the world. Renata is tough on the outside, but on the inside lays a painful heart and a yearning to belong. She is loyal, but she never allows anyone a chance to get close enough to her to find out. She a great cook and loves to read. She lives in the Tribecca Area of New York City with her white wolf/Serbian husky mix, Jonesy. The nightmares still haunt her dreams, and the face of her would-be murderer keeps her mind focus on the task at hand. Find him and kill him.
