They were all orphans, growing up in orphanages. They had never been adopted. Once an orphan gets past the age of three, they're rarely adopted.
Jen's and Liz's parents had been best friends since college, and coming back from their five year reunion, they'd been hit by a drunk driver, leaving the two 18-month old's orphans. Both sets of parents had cut off all ties with their families long ago, and both girls had been so miserable when they were seperated that they had to be put back together and kept together. They had voiced their opinions with screams and wails of the other's name.
Kylie's mother had been in a plane crash and her father had commited suicide when he heard the news, leaving the poor three year old girl all alone for two days until neighbors came to investigate the noises they heard in the apartment, supposedly empty.
Out of all the girls, Allana had been hurt the worst by her becoming an orphan - at the age of thirteen. Simply because her mother and father were sick of the responsibilities that came with her. They'd had her too young, and instead of coping, they got rid of her.

"Mail call!" Jen entered the livingroom of the condo the members of Devil's Angel shared, waving a stack of mail in the air.
"Oh, gimme!" Allana jumped up and reached for it.
"No, you'll throw it everywhere after you get your own!" Liz laughed and playfully pushed Allana out of the way with her hip. "Me!"
"No way!" Kylie coolly lifted her body off the couch and sauntered over to the other three. "You'll take forever!"
"I'm doin' it," Jen decided.
"Alright," Allana said grudgingly as she lay down and began doing sit-ups on the floor.
"If you hafta," Liz fell back onto the floor and began doing leg-lifts again.
"I hate you sometimes," Kylie said in a conversational tone, draping herself back across the couch.
"Thanks," Jen said dryly as she sorted the mail into four piles.
"Here ya go," She dropped the mail either on the lap of the girl of in front of her.
"Ohmigod!" Liz squealed, but continued doing leg-lifts anyway.
"What?" Jen looked up from an offer for the group to be in Plugged In, the most popular magazine ever.
"Inside wants me to do some modeling for them," Liz smiled and Jen hugged her. Liz had always wanted to be a model.
"That's great!" Kylie said warmly as the rest of the girls got back to their mail.
Suddenly Allana stopped doing her sit ups and gasped.
"What?" Liz figured someone died, since nothing ever got Allana to quit her sit ups before time.
"Rolling Stone wants me to be on their cover with AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys," Allana breathed.
"What for?" Jen, also the manager, asked.
"Alter egos of famous group-singers," Allana smiled.
"Rolling Stone?" Jen asked. "They're pretty risque sometimes."
"I don't care, this is my big opportunity!" Allana flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder and looked at Jen defiantly.
"I don't suggest it," Kylie interrupted.
"Well, I'm doing it anyway," Allana shrugged. "Tomorrow at eleven."
