Chapter 3: If I Didn't Know Better

Lucky hesitated a bit at the entrance to the club, hearing the pulsating music and wondering if anyone she knew was in there. This was Orlando. Her home-town. Someone was bound to see her in there.

Justin, noticing the slight hesitation, rested his palm comfortingly on the small of her back and grinned at the bouncer, who simply nodded at them instead of asking for an entrance fee.

Lucky walked stiffly as the music pounded around her and scantily clad girls danced all around Justin, whose only reaction was to slide his hand all the way around her so his arm was around her waist and his hand was on her stomach, holding her tight to him.

Justin felt, in return to his action, Lucky relax in his arm and even lean slightly towards him. He grinned, and it wasn't his I'm-a-teenage-heartthrob-love-me grin, it was a genuine, heart-felt grin from deep within him.

Noticing all the underage kids who would be here until the club kicked them out at midnight, Justin led Lucky to one of the clubs green rooms. It was completely empty, and Justin felt Lucky stiffen next to him.

"The guys will be here in a minute, ok?" Justin said calmly. "There's too many underaged kids out there for now for us to be out there."

"Oh, ok," Lucky leaned back into Justin and Justin laughed quietly. "I'm not used to this whole fame thing just yet, alright?" Lucky said defensively. "Sorry!"

"That's ok," Lance's laughing voice came from the entrance of the room. "Justin didn't get used to it for a year or two. We were forever protecting him from being mauled."

"I think Justin did it on purpose," JC teased.

"Ya caught me...I was so into those fine twelve year olds that..." Justin trailed off. "Ok, I can only lie so much in one day, and that just took my whole two-week allowance!"

Lucky laughed as Justin sat down, pulling her down, keeping his arm around her.

They talked and laughed together until about eleven thirty, and Justin was practically normal to Lucky again, but she couldn't get back inside his eyes.

"Ok, I can't take it anymore!" Joey jumped up. "Let's dance!"

"Alright!" Lucky grinned and jumped up too. Chris, JC, Lance, and Justin reluctantly followed.

As they walked through the crowd, Lucky could feel rather than see people getting out of their way. She was following Justin, and instead of winding through the people like she'd always had to do, they were walking in a straight line, a very rare occurance.

"We're going in a straight line," Lucky marveled as Justin put his hand on the small of her back and pulled her up next to him.

"The many perks of being a pop star," Justin shrugged. "Dance wit' me?"

"Of course," Lucky smiled and the two began dancing.

Lucky, as always, got lost in the music and forgot about everything but Justin, and she completely forgot all inhibitions. Soon the two were grinding like nobody's business. Justin reached a hand out and turned Lucky's head so she was looking straight into his eyes.

Lucky smiled. She was back in Justin's eyes. She could see straight to his soul. She was ecstatic.

"Holy Christ," JC muttered.

"What?" Jon turned to him.

"Look at those two!" JC pointed to where Lucky and Justin were grinding, Lucky's arms around Justin's neck, Justin's hands on her hips.

"If I didn't know better, I'd say it's love," Jon grinned.

"I say it's love no matter what," JC grinned. "And Justin definitely deserves something going right in his life."

"So does Lucky," Jon said slowly. "So does Lucky."

"What's her real name?" JC asked.

"Lucky," Jon grinned.

"Last name?" JC asked.

"Star," Jon smiled again.

"Her parents named her that?" JC asked, shocked.

"They were both drunk," Jon shrugged.

JC shook his head and turned back to watch the people dancing. I've never seen him happier! JC realized. Just then a blonde girl wearing black go-go boots, black hot pants, and a black tube top grabbed his hands.

"Wanna dance, Handsome?" She grinned.

"My day just gets better and better!" JC grinned at Jon and jumped up to run after the girl.
