Chapter 3: An Angel Gave It To Me

*Seven Years Later*

"Come on, Hayley, what's in that room?" Jessica was dying to know just what was in Hayley's room. The one that no one was allowed into but her, that remained locked at all times, from one of the sides, the one that the only key to hung around Hayley's neck on a chain.

"Anything I want to put in there," Hayley replied easily.

"Can I see it?" Jessica wheedled.

"No," Hayley said bluntly. "Now get off it."

"Doesn't anyone know what's in there?" Jessica continued.

"Yeah, one person. Me," Hayley said. "Jess, leave me alone about it. I don't dig around in your stuff, do I?"

"Not unless it's the kitchen or my closet," Jessica admitted.

"So you stay in my kitchen and closet, and out of my personal room."

"You are no fun!" Jessica declared.

"Sorry," Hayley shrugged. "Things happen."

"Well, Sissa, I've got to get goin', got a date with that fine guy from the club two nights ago!" Jessica announced. "Can I borrow that cute black dress of yours?"

"Which one?" Hayley asked.

"One of the slinky ones," Jessica shrugged.

"The backless one is at the cleaners, so you'll have to go with the regular spaghetti-strapped one," Hayley said. "Hold on." Hayley disappeared down the hall, hid the backless dress, and pulled out the other one.

As she knew it would go, Jessica appeared in the doorway. "What else ya got in there?"

"Not much you'd like," Hayley shrugged. Jessica was more of an outrageous dresser, while Hayley stuck to the safer things that some people wore, but not everyone.

"True," Jessica nodded. "Well, I got to go!" Jessica took the dress and, in typical Jessica fashion, blew her a kiss from her pouty purple-tinted mouth and added, "Love ya!"

"Love you, too," Hayley said as she heard the front door slam shut.

She sighed and went into her secret room. The room was rather small, and in the center of it stood a stand with a computer and a computer chair sitting in front of it. Hayley sighed and sat down at her computer, flipping it on, and then twirled her chair around, looking at her surroundings.

She had spent four days straight getting this room in order. One wall was covered in shelves, which held all the pictures of Brian and her, or just Brian, when they were young, each and every one framed.

The other walls were simply painted blue, with white stars showing up here and there, as Brian had promised her when they were six that one day she'd have a room like that.

There was one more shelf that held the random things Brian had left behind. There was a bottle of cologne up there, about ten shirts that she had borrowed, stolen, or were accidently left at her place, a pair of sweat pants, photo albums, a pair of socks, and his teddy bear and baby blanket. She blew the bear a kiss and smiled at the background image of Brian on her desktop.

She went over to the CD player in the corner and put on the Backstreet Boys' newest CD, Black & Blue, and turned it to "Shining Star"

She checked her e-mail and read some fan fiction, laughing at the girls' portrayal of Brian and Kevin. It was crock, in her opinion. She sighed as she picked up the remote and changed the song to "I Promise You {With Everything I Am}"

"Dear Lord," Hayley prayed. "Please bring my baby back to me. I miss him. And I still love him."

"Hayley?" A voice called from outside the door.

Hayley snapped the lock quickly and said, "Hold on! I'll be out in a minute!"

She quickly shut down the computer and snapped the CD player off, then carefully slid out the door so Jessica couldn't see in the room.

"Can I see?" Jessica asked excitedly.

"Absolutely not," Hayley declared.

"I bet it's a shrine to Brian!" Jessica giggled.

"No, that was always your job," Hayley said as she twirled the ring around her finger.

"Hey, where'd you get that ring?" Jessica asked.

"An angel gave it to me when I hurt the most," Hayley replied simply.
