At Oelwein Tourney

Competing at the Oelwein Tournament on Saturday, the Crestwood varsity wrestling team earned an impressive second place finish with 193.5 points. Clear Lake took first place with 207 points.
Three Cadet wrestlers captured first place at the tournament including: Brad Klobassa, 125 pounds; Justin Sovereign, 145; and Evan Carman, 189.
Six Cadets earned third place finishes including: Johnny Roberts, 103; Levi Ledbeter, 112; Brady Schmauss, 119; Nick Lepa, 135; Danny Kraft, 152; and Kyle Slifka, 215.
"Our boys proved that they could compete with some of the top teams (in Iowa)," Crestwood coach Doug Hatch said. "We held our own against (eighth-ranked) Clear Lake."
The coach added that Justin Sovereign did a good job leading the team during the tournament, and Evan Carman also wrestled well at the tournament.
"Evan Carman was our wrestler of the week (during week two of the season) after cruising through the tournament and looking the best he ever has," Hatch said. "The Oelwein Tournament featured 12 undefeated wrestlers at the start and five at the conclusion."
Independence placed third in the team standings with 170 points. Starmont was fourth with 148, Valley CEW was fifth with 141.5, Benton Community took sixth with 102, Oelwein was seventh with 56, Cascade took eighth with 55, Clayton Ridge was ninth with 50 and Central of Elkader was 10th with 48.
