Below is a picture of how your VIN tag should look. It will help you to find out what you actually have got in your Oldsmobile. This information is a must to doing anything with your car.

The above tag can be found on models produced from 1967-1971. It will be located on the drivers side lower windshield on the dash. Look through the windshield from the outside and you should see it and be able to get the numbers off of it. Listed below are the break-down details on what the codes represent.

I wanted to include some useful information here to help in the process of Identification of specifications on the 1968-69 model year. See the box below for your appropriate specs.

The above specifications came out of all sorts of information that I have compiled over time. They are not my property, neither can I take credit for them. Chilton's, Haynes, and many other sources have been consulted to provide the data on display. Full credit is given to whoever it belongs; ultimately someone else!

This next image was borne out of the frustration with the clash between old technology and the new performance modifications that I made to the engine. I changed the old HEI ignition system and went with the Mallory Unitlite distributor and accessories. Here then are the changes that had to be made in order for it to function properly. Note: There is a protection device available by Mallory that is located between the distributor and the coil. That device will protect against unusual electrical surges that might occur thereby knocking out the $100.00 module in the distributor.
