The legend of St. George is that he slew a dragon. Once a kingdom was held captive by a dragon. People tried to destroy the dragon but they were defeated. St. George went to fight the dragon and he ended up slaying it. The people were saved. St. George was martyred in 303 A.D. |
St. Joan of Arc was a young girl called by God. She was praying one day when suddenly God told her to go to France. He wanted her to save France. She got France back for the king. But the enemy seized her and burned her at the stake. |
St. Michael is an archangel. This means he is one of the head angels in heaven. He is best known for throwing the devil out of heaven. He is often shown in statues with a spear stepping on the devil. He is the patron saint of policemen. |
St. Francis of Assisi was born in Assisi, Italy. He ws the son of a rich textile merchant. He wanted adventure so he started to go on a Crusade. But he got ill and had to turn back to Assisi. God told him to rebuilt a church and he did. He gave away everything he had to the poor. Later on, he started an order of friars. He received the stigmata and died. |
