The next day was a big blur, when Summer and I weren't working, we spent most of our time getting ready for the tour. We didn't even know whether or not we were going to go or not. By the time Sunday morning came, neither of us were even slightly capable of sleeping in. We made lunch at about 11:30 and couldn't even eat it, that's how nervous we were. We spent the next half hour simply trying to decide what to wear. I decided on a knee length black skirt and a dark grey light knit sweater. Summer wore grey pants and a light blue button up shirt. By the time 12:30 came, we were almost done our hair. I had clipped my curly shoulder length red hair into a pewter colored clip at the nape of my neck, with a few strands free. Summer wore her light brown hair down straight and lightly curled under.
When we had decided that we were done, we sat on the couch, just waiting for the phone to ring. Every now and then, Summer would get up and pace, but that made me even more nervous. We were both impatient, jumping at every slight noise. At almost exactly one o'clock, the phone rang. I jumped up, yelling "I'll get it!" I looked at Summer and laughed. "We're pathetic." I picked up the phone. "Hello?" I asked.
To my relief, AJ's voice was on the other end. "Hey, I'm downstairs. Wanna buzz be up or do you two wanna come down? He asked.
"Oh, we'll come down." I replied. "We'll be right there." I hung up the phone and straightened my skirt. I looked at Summer. "And we're off!" I said. She let out a little squeal as I locked the door behind us.
As we stepped out of the elevator on the ground floor, AJ came to meet us, accompanied by four people. One was a massively huge man who hung back a little. I guessed that this was his bodyguard. He was looking me up and down slowly, so I nodded and smiled at him shyly. The other three people were all business-type people. A woman came forward to stand beside AJ. The two men stayed behind. AJ smiled at me, and I could feel myself start to relax a little.
"Cassandra and Summer, I'd like you to meet out staffing manager, Shauna Miller. Shauna, Cassandra Aspen is the security co-ordinator at the local mall and Summer Maynard is a physiotherapy and massage therapy student." He introduced us and took a small step back. I took that as a hint, and stepped forward and put out my hand.
"It's nice to meet you, Ms. Miller. I'm honored." After we shook hands, she shook with Summer. I was starting to relax, but was still very nervous. Something AJ did caught my eye and when I looked at him he flashed me a reassuring glance.
"Well, girl, it's nice to meet you two also. AJ has told me nothing but good things. Allow me to introduce my associates, Mr. Ryan Stanley and Mr. Sean Gibson. They are key in the financial aspects of this business. Summer and I smiled and nodded at then men. AJ stepped forward again.
"Well, now that you all know each other, if you will follow me to the limo, we'll be on our way!" He started walking out the door. Summer leaned into me from behind.
"Oh my god, can you believe this? It's insane??? Why us?" she whispered. I understood where she was coming from, but I had to say something to reassure her so I smiled at her.
"We'll just have to show them why it ought to be us on tour, won't we?" I walked out the door and got into the limo, with AJ on one side of me and Sarah on the other. When everyone was in, the driver slowly pulled away from the curb. This was definitely going to be an interesting ride.
