Well every single time I see you I start to feel this way
It makes me wonder if I'm ever gonna feel this way again.
The 17-year-old redhead looked up at the star-spangled night sky. That was one of the things she loved about the country; city lights didn't interfere with nature.
There's a picture,
tearin'
in the back of my head.
I see it over and over
She turned around to see her lavender-haired best friend and partner cooking dinner. It had been her night to cook, but James volunteered since she'd been fighting a cold all week. He was sweet like that.
I wanna hold you,
and love you,
in my arms and then,
I wanna need you
cuz I need to be with you till the end.
Jessie loved him. Plain and simple, undying love. But she never knew how to tell him. The two had been best friends for years...
Then I hear myself reply "You've gotta hold it in,"
this time tonight.
She knew the best way was to just come out and say it. The three words, "I love you," were utterly simple. That was all she'd have to say.
If only,
I had the guts to feel this way.
If only,
you'd look at me and wanna stay.
If only,
I could take you in my arms and say,
I won't go
cuz I need you.
Jessie lay back in the grass, looking up at the moon. Tonight wasn't the night.
Sit here waiting, wondering, hoping that all make this right.
Cuz all I think about is your hands your face and all these lonely nights.
James stirred the creation, tasting it for flavor. It wasn't bad, but then again, it was hard to screw up Campbell's Chicken Noodle. Jessie coughed, and he had a sudden urge to sit with her beneath the stars, hugging her to keep her warm.
There's a feelin'
screamin'
in the back of my head.
Sayin' over and over
It had been love at first sight. James had looked at Jessie's radiant glory, and, even at age nine, knew he loved her.
I wanna hold you,
and love you,
in my arms and then,
I wanna need you
cuz I need to be with you till the end.
James looked over at his partner in crime. Bathed in moonlight, Jessie practically glowed. 'What a Goddess,' he thought.
Then I hear myself reply "She'll never let you in,"
this time tonight.
James knew he was scared. He was afraid that Jessie would just laugh and tell him to quit being stupid. He never knew how she'd react.
If only,
I had the guts to feel this way
If only,
you'd look at me and wanna stay
If only,
I could take you in my arms and say,
I won't go,
cuz I need you.
James sighed. Maybe later.
James poured the soup into two bowls and took a seat next to Jessie. Wordlessly he handed her a bowl. She took it gratefully.
James shivered, "You should get closer to the fire."
"I wouldn't get such a spectacular view," Jessie commented.
I wanna hear you say it'll always be this way.
And we'll be hand in hand for every night and everyday.
Jessie gave James half of her blanket.
"It's not so bad under here."
James smiled, "Thanks."
I wanna scream and shout cuz rules are never doubt
and all I care about is you and me and us and now.
James shifted nervously. He glanced at the beautiful girl sitting next to him. The person he could tell everything to. The best friend possible. And yet he couldn't say he loved her?
If only,
I had the guts to feel this way
If only,
you'd look at me and wanna stay
If only,
I could take you in my arms and say,
I won't go,
cuz I need you.
James cleared his throat, "Um, Jessie?"
Please don't go cuz I need you now.
Yeah, cuz I need you.
Jessie looked up hopefully, "Yes?"
If only, cuz I need you now.
If only cuz I need you, I need you.
James looked away, "Nevermind."
If only cuz I need you.
If only cuz I need you.
Both sighed. Oh well. Tomorrow was another day.
If only, yeah
If only... I need you now... yeah.
