A New Trainer - Chapter 2

Someone stopped directly in front of her cell. As Kaeli squinted, she noticed it was a girl about her age, but she was wearing a Team Rocket uniform. Kaeli opened her eyes and sat up, making sure the girl didn't see her keys. As she looked closer, she noticed the girl looked surprised.

"Y...you okay? How long have you been down here?" the girl said, frightened.

Kaeli shook her head; "I've been down here for...hm...my dad knocked me out last night...or was it last night? No...it was two nights ago. What time is it?"

The girl was panicking, "It's about seven! Oh my God...they're locking people up now? I...I wouldn't have even joined if I knew this. Oh I wish Mom were alive!"

Kaeli stopped her; "It's okay. I'm all right. Listen, my dad is your boss. He locked me in here, but I can get out. Do you want to come with me?"

The girl gasped, "You're the boss's daughter? I...I'm sorry. I have to go. Goodbye!" She ran the same way she had come.

Kaeli began to test each key in the keyhole, only to realize that none of them fit! She sat down, "What am I going to do?" She looked around, and suddenly noticed there was a screen under the chair that protruded from the wall. She crawled over to it and saw that there was water about fifteen feet under it. She punched through the screen and pulled it off. She saw that were grips on the ceiling where she could climb along the tunnel. She slowly let herself down enough to grab on and begin to climb. After ten or twelve, her arms went numb. She fell into the murky water and began to swim on.

"Oh!" she screamed as she felt something slimy touch her leg. She swam on until she found a ladder that led up to another screen and she climbed up. She poked her head through the spot where the screen had been. She saw the girl from before with her four other Eevee. "Wait!" she sputtered and struggled to climb up. When she did, the girl screamed and backed to the wall.

The four Eevee cheered and ran to Kaeli, who hugged each of them. She let her Vaporeon-Eevee out and she joined the rest of the group. The girl suddenly spoke, "You got out! These are your pokemon?" she asked.

Kaeli nodded, "Yeah, they are. But I'm leaving. I'm going to go on my journey." She began to climb up toward a window from whatever basement she was in that peeked up toward ground level.

"Take me with you!" begged the girl.

"Do you have a pokemon?" Kaeli asked.

The girl grabbed a pokeball from the massive pile of imports. She nodded, "Yeah, I do. Now let's go!" Kaeli returned her pokemon and began to climb out of the window, when suddenly the door crashed open. Kaeli looked back. It was her dad! She got down, pushed the girl through, and began to climb out again. Kaeli was almost through when her dad grabbed her leg.

"Girl! Get into my bag and get a pokeball!" Kaeli screamed. The girl snapped open the backpack and began digging.

"Kaeli! Get in here!" groaned her dad. The girl finally pulled out a pokeball and hurled it at her boss's face. Kaeli's dad fell back and the girls ran as hard as they could all the way to Pewter City. Kaeli collapsed onto the ground, followed by the girl.

"W...what's your name?" Kaeli asked, a little shaken up.

"Skye Carpenter...you're Kaeli, right?" A little surprised, Kaeli nodded. "The Boss always talked of Kaeli, the next Team Rocket leader," she laughed at this and got up to pick a leaf from a tree nearby. "So, uh...what pokemon did you get, Skye?" Skye suddenly realized she had a pokemon! She grabbed at her waist and tossed the pokeball. A small pink pokemon suddenly emerged from the pokeball. Her large, green eyes looked around curiously.

A Pokedex nearby beeped, "Jigglypuff, the Balloon Pokemon. Jigglypuff are known to be very stubborn but still make a great pet. They sing a soothing lullaby that often forces its opponent into sleep. It is commonly opposed to Clefairy, who tries to sing, but doesn't have such a soothing voice."

"Jigglypuff?" an itchy voice said. Kaeli looked over to see a small boy and his Pikachu. "This thing? It's so wimpy-looking."

The pokemon turned around and glared at him. Kaeli soon noticed Skye was doing the same, "You want to battle, little boy?"

"It's Ash, and sure. I'm gonna win, though. You use one pokemon and I'll use one. I choose Pikachu!" Skye nodded sarcastically.

"Jigglypuff! I choose you!"

Kaeli smiled. She'd seen pokemon battles before, but she was sick of her dad's pokemon. She was ready to see new pokemon. "Jiggly! Jigglypuff!" called the cutesy pokemon.

"Pikachu!" called the mouse pokemon that belonged to Ash.

"Jigglypuff, Sing!" commanded Skye.

"Jiggly-y-puff!" Jiggly-y-y-puff!" The familiar song sounded. The Pikachu fell asleep and lay softly on the town's comfortable grass.

"Aw...Pikachu! Wake up!" Ash groaned. Skye smiled and ordered, "Good job, Jigglypuff! Now use your Pound maneuver!"

The pink pokemon got her arm ready to crash into the pokemon and let it fly. Pikachu hurled into a tree nearby, and woke up. He was weak, but he prepared a Thunder Shock attack. Because of his weakness, the attack was more of a tickling sensation to Jigglypuff. "One more pound, baby," Skye smiled.

Jigglypuff repeated her earlier move and pounded the pokemon one more time. He gave up and fell to the ground, tired. Ash groaned and kicked at the dirt. "Ah, all right. It's not that wimpy. Oh! I'm going to go train Pikachu and Pidgeotto until they're the tops!" He ran back toward Viridian Forest, nearly crying.

Kaeli smiled, "You're good...better than I would have guessed. I haven't even battled yet." Skye smiled and picked Jigglypuff up, "It's the pokemon that's talented, not its breeder." Jigglypuff smiled and hugged Skye lovingly. Kaeli smiled and looked around.

"Hey! I have to go to the gym and battle! Let's go right now!" she said enthusiastically. Skye shook her head. "Do you realize how close it is to being night?" Kaeli looked up at the sky. It was cadet blue, nearly gray.

She nodded, "Okay, I'll wait until tomorrow. Let's go to the pokemon center." The girls began walking to the giant building that towered above the rest of the city for a good night's rest.
