Finding Fish Faster

Getting to the fishing spot is one thing. Finding the fish can be quite another. A good sonar unit can really help. It acts as your underwater eyes, telling you where the shelves, drop-offs, rock piles, sunken islands are, and letting you know how far out and how deep those points, inlets and bars run. Add to that the ability of fish Locator units to show you exactly where the fish are, and you've got some big advantages going for you. A temperature gauge is another tremendous helper.

A sonar flasher can give you a clear picture of structure --and fish.

Add a trolling motor to help you fish harder and smarter. You often catch  more fish with silent electric power than with the gas outboard running. Spooky fish in shallow water will ignore an electric motor at times when the sound of a gas motor might turn them away from the area you're fishing.

Above all, a bow trolling motor will keep your boat at the right depth when you are working a shoreline or weed line. If you have a sonar unit as well, you can really control the depth you want to fish at. Remote controls on trolling motors can let you keep both hands free for fishing.

One smaller but very important piece of fishing equipment you should positively have: polarized sunglasses. They really do help you see a great deal more clearly under the water. It's amazing how many times you can spot a fish or a school of fish and drop your lure right into them.
