NIKOLAUS "NICK" WIRTH `57

 Nick received three varsity soccer letters at Hightstown High School. During his senior year his team was undefeated -10 wins and 3 ties. Only two opponents scored more than one goal against them. Nick, known as a strong defender could also score. He was the team's second highest scorer.

The highlight of the year could have been the victory Nick and his teammates handed the Harrison Soccer squad. This powerful team had won state championships the previous two years. They had been undefeated in their last 59 games. Nick's team handed them a 3-0 thrashing that day.

As center halfback Nick was selected to the First Team All State Soccer Squad in 1956. In addition the Fred L Coggins Soccer Award was presented to him as the outstanding secondary school soccer player in the State of New Jersey for 1956. This award represents skill, sportsmanship, scholarship, and service to his school Nick truly fits the criteria for this award

Following graduation Nick attended the University of Bridgeport with a soccer scholarship. As a varsity performer all four years his team at U.B. won the New England Soccer Championship his junior year. As a senior they were recognized with the number 2 ranking in the country. They played the University of St. Louis for the National Championship.

Nick and Mary Ann, his wife of 40 years have three children; Nikolaus III, Stephen and Laurie, and are blessed with a grandson, Aleksey. They reside in Norwalk, CT

Born in Rumania, Nick moved to Austria as a displaced person in World War II, Nick came to the United States in 1951. He became a citizen in 1960 and is very proud of that accomplishment.
