DA VID McINTIRE - COACH

 

David McIntire, known as "Coach" to his players and more commonly "Dave" to all others, coached the Hightstown football team from 1969 to 1975 and 1981 until his untimely death in 1984. Dave's 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1982 teams were best known for their scoring and offensive abilities with the '75 team being the leading example. They won 10 games with one loss in what is often referred to as the most memorable or best game ever played in the State Playoffs. The 1975 team was the highest scoring and top ranked offensive team in the state as they averaged 40 points and 430 yards gained per game.

Dave was honored twice as the "All Area Coach of the Year" once in 1972 and again in 1982. He was also honored as the Mercer County Coach of the Year. The 1972, 74, 75 and 82 teams had a combined record of 32 wins and 6 losses. Overall, Dave's teams won 51 games, tied 3 and lost 3 7. His complete record when combined with Hightstown show Dave's teams won 101 games, lost 54 and tied 6

A graduate of Millersville State College with a Masters Degree from Trenton State, Dave is survived by Katherine, his wife, and seven children, Joe, David, Jim, Linda, Debbie, Mary, and Joan.
