mother Alexandra, stepsister Zinaida, 19, his brother Nikolai, 10,
brother Ippolit, 5, father Ilya
and sister Alexandra, 6, leaning hand on cheek against her mother.
In later life Alexandra was to be Tchaikovsky's close confidante.

combination living and working room of his country home at Klin,
outside Moscow. His father's portrait dominates a family gallery
on the right hand wall. The composer's favorite musicians-with
Beethoven honored as the centerpiece-hang at left. To
