Sandwich For 12

Sandwich For 12

Ingredients:

1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons butter or margerine
1 (16 ounce) package hot roll mix
3/4 cup warm water (110-115°F)
2 eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon minced dried onion

Or your favorite whole wheat or multi-grain bread machine recipe made into dough.

Topping Ingredients:

1 egg
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)
1 teaspoon garlic salt

Filling Ingredients:

1/2 cup mayonaise
4 teaspoons prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon prepared horseradish
lettuce leaves
8 ounces thinly sliced ham
8 ounces thinly sliced turkey
1 medium green pepper, sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
6 ounces thinly sliced swiss cheese
2 large tomatoes, thinly sliced

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, combine oats, boiling water and butter and let stand for 5 minutes. Meanwhile dissolve yeast from the hot roll mix in warm water. Add to the oat mixture with egg and onion. Add flour from the hot roll mix, stir together but DO NOT knead. Spread dough into a circle on a well greased pizza pan. Cover loosely with plastic wrap sprayed with a little non-stick spray. Let rise in a warm place for approximately 45 minutes, or until doubled. Beat egg and garlic salt and brush over the top of the dough and sprinkle with seeds if you like. (Instead of an egg brushed on top, you can brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt.) Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack. When cooled completely, slice in half horizontally making two flat circles. Combine the mayonaise, mustard and horseradish and spread over cut sides of the bread. Layer with the remaining filling ingredients and cut into wedges.
Pam's Tips:You may substitute your favorite cold cuts and cheeses and add any extras you like to your sandwich. I like to add sliced black olives and yellow pepper rings. You may also sprinkle the vegetables with wine vinegar and oregano to taste like your favorite sub sandwich.
