Cogie continues to shine by Len

August 16, 2001

At a young age, Cogie Domingo has made a name for himself. His superb acting as a drug addict in Yakapin Mo Ang Umaga earned him nominations for Best Actor in Urian and Star Awards. He has also received an Urian citation for Best Actor in his excellent portrayal as a young convict in GMA Films' entry to the 2000 Metro Manila Film Festival, Deathrow. Last year, he was adjudged as the Most Promising Actor of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation.

With these credits in hand, Cogie is already one of the most sought-after young stars today. He is now busy promoting his latest movie from Regal Films, Cool Dudes with Danilo Barrios and James Blanco.

Cogie shares the coolest experience he had while shooting the movie in this interview. Can you tell us your role in Cool Dudes?

How close is your character to you in real life?
Very similar. Sa tatlo, siya 'yung naglilider-lideran eh. Minsan ganoon din ako sa totoong buhay. Minsan seryoso rin ako.Tahimik lang talaga ako unless kakausapin mo ako. Saka ako magiging madaldal.

How is this movie different from the other youth-oriented movies?
Marami eh. It's delivered in a unque kind of way. Pabalik-balik. Lahat kasi siya in one day lang nangyari.

How special is Cool Dudes to you?
It is my first movie na ganito ka-light tapos katrabaho ko ka-age bracket ko. Exciting siya!

What's one thing about this movie that you'll never forget?
To team-up with the rest of the cast.

What were the adjustments you made for your trio to click?
Actually, wala namang adjustments. Natural na nag-click lang talaga. Danilo is from G-mik. Kami ni James from Click. Nandoon 'yung bonding.

Did you help James and Danilo to be effective in their roles?
In a way, oo. Paminsan-minsan.

What can you say about Direk Ruel?
He's always high on fun!

Where do you get fulfillment as an actor, doing light-romance movies or heavy drama films?
Gusto ko talaga drama. Gusto ko lang ma-try ang ganito.

At this point in your career, where do you think you are now?
Ang goal ko is kahit papaano ma-try ko in kahit a little way 'yung lahat ng klase ng drama.

You seem to like drama so much...
Since the start kasi drama talaga 'yung binigay sa akin eh. 'Di naman pala ganoon kahirap. Madali naman sabayan. Mas attached ako sa ganoon.

If you were to conceptualize a drama movie, what would it be?

You were the most promising actor of the year that passed. You were already launched as a solo star in Deathrow. Why did you join this movie where you're just one of the stars?
Why not!? For me, para mas exciting and medyo light tapos, kasama ko 'yung mga ka-age ko na nakaka-relate ako. 'Di tulad sa Deathrow parang masyadong mabigat!

What's the coolest thing that happened in your life?
For me, coolest 'yung dito sa movie. Sa life ko naman, the coolest is 'yung entering showbiz.
