2. Geographical features:

  • Total area: 4,749.4 square km
  • Hoa Binh is a mountainous province. It's adjacent to Phu Tho and Ha Tay to the north, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa to the south, Ha Tay and Ha Nam to the east, Son La to the west. Its topography is mainly composed of mountains and forest, with a narrow valley betwee the sides of the mountains. Its highest place is Da Bac (560 m), with ten mountain peaks (1,011 m - 1,373 m) and its lowest place is Hoa Binh (20 m). There are two main rivers in Ha Binh, the Da river (151 km) with a river lake of 8,000 ha , and the Boi river (60 km). Hoa Binh's land structure is mainly forestry land (46.5%), agricultural land (15.3% ) of which 5.9% of land is for rice cultivation, the remaining are bare hills.
