Princess Alyssia and the City of Light

by Mary Beth Pinard-Brace

A blue mist rose off the green sea and slowly the land faded away and could be seen no more. The Prince of Light carried Alyssia across the water beyond where the sun kisses the sea, far away from the Land of Man, until He came to a grand and glorious City of Light.

At first Alyssia thought the Prince had carried her straight into the sun for the City glowed with a brilliant white light. But, as they drew closer, she saw beautiful crystal palaces with tall towers decorated with silver and diamonds and long glass staircases that wound their way down to the sea. The city dwellers were dressed in flowing garments of spun silver decorated with what appeared to be hundreds of tiny crystals. And, the sun’s light danced on the crystals so the sky was filled with swirls of bright colors and Alyssia thought that surely this is where rainbows came from. When all the beautiful colors combined they created the brilliant white light she had seen in the distance.

The City was a happy place. Music and laughter floated on the air bringing great joy to all who heard it. For Alyssia, it was as if she had returned to a once familiar place and now that she was here her heart felt great joy at the home coming. Her brothers and sisters welcomed her with great rejoicing and the City itself shone even more brightly
