After the last clearing the trail goes through a beautiful Ironwood (Casuarina stricta) forest (an Australian native). Francis watches as the gang leaves the Ironwood forest.

Just above the Ironwood is a clearing and we get our first good look at the other side of the ridge. The mountains in the distance are the Koolaus in the area of the Likelike Highway.
