Met Craig after work yesterday and paddled out to my fav reef
break - my choice ... he was a little hesitant about the shallow
waters --- and had heard those rumors Glenda was spreading ;-)
Even Neal had told him that he (Craig) and I have the common
history of bumping up against the Diamond Head reef. Us, The
Clumsy Ones? (Hey! That was exactly a year ago, Neal!) ...
Actually, it was a lovely day, and we were GREAT ... even tho the
waves were really low -- maybe waist high faces (occasional
shoulder high ones). I was assuring Craig that this was an easy
fun place and the reef was no problem at high tide ... then we
paddle up to my buddies and one is sporting a whole shoulder of
new reef rash! Kinda ghastly. Oh well.
We stayed to the far side of the lineup where we avoided the
longboards (I call our area 'the skeg museum') and caught a few
lovely rides. Craig enjoyed the long long rides in (well, after
one time of a lonnnng paddle back out, he started pulling over
the shoulder ... LOL) We even shared a nice sized wave in - just
inches apart. (No, I didn't pants him!)
Of course we shared lots of AS ppl stories; I told him he was the
messenger from the 'family afar' with all his travels and AS
encounters over there on the right coast. Are your ears burning?
LOL!
I stayed out til almost sunset again - full moon came up over
Diamond Head just as the sun went down ... stunning. Craig had to
leave early - it was his second session of the day and his lovely
wife, Gail and son Thomas were waiting patiently on the beach. He
survived the session intact! - lol - we talked about hooking up
again this week.

BTW, Craig, one of the guys I introduced you to is one of the best
spongers I have seen out there -- he was the one with the wicked reef
gouges on his shoulder. As one surfer there once told me, if ya surf this
spot for any time you will be leaving some of your flesh on it.
But ... you got to enjoy it on the lower set day at least. Glad you liked
sandbars the next day ... I saw it was ripping over there too.
