Steven and Scott cancel the season and suspend the team after interrogation. Kevin hears a rumor from the football team that a member, Bobby Renfro, is gay. Bobby, who is interested in a Jesuit school, angrily denies it. Harvey tries to preach tolerance, first to Bobby and then to the team, despite Kevin’s frequent pleas to leave his team alone. The cancellation of the soccer season bothers school board president Harold Shaw, but Marcia is instead critical of the recurring issues involving Steven. She specifically targets Marla, who interrupts launches a long rant at Marcia. Steven defends his teachers as being frustrated but gifted and motivated. One of Harry’s students, Juan Figgis, has dropped out and is working at a fast food restaurant for the money. Harry convinces him to return to school with the promise that he can teach a class, which Scott sits in on. Juan chooses the subject of “premature ejaculation”. An annual charity talent show, led by Marilyn, is rehearsed and performed. Milton endures his ridicule on stage as well as the date. Lauren, at Marilyn’s urging, tries to talk Harvey out of his traditional performance of “If I Was A Rich Man”, but Harvey refuses to believe that the rock-star-like treatment he annually receives is mere mockery. After the show, though, he partially admits that he was being laughed at. Scott, accepting the charity check on behalf of Steven and Winslow High, is ambushed on stage by Marla and Marylin singing a seductive number. Lauren is paged to the hospital, where she, Steven, and John’s parents learn that John has overdosed on pills and committed suicide.
