The Capes ( Reclassified ) These are one of my favorite species. They are a still hidden secret amoung aviculture. Capes are still difficult to find, but are becoming more known as people discover how special they really are. They have the most incrediable dispositions. Handfed babies make the most wonderful pets. I compare them to being as snuggley as a Cockatoo, as intelligent as a grey, and they have the quieter voice of most african species. Our experience with them is that they are not biters by nature but, are very gentle. In spite of that big intimidating beak. They may pick a favorite person but tend to be very social with all their family members & new visitors. One of ours can talk as clear as an African Grey. These pets require alot of time because they love to just "be" with their person, whether on a shoulder or just observing what your doing. Ours are good with people of all ages -even our young children. The few imports that remain should be in breeding programs to insure the species survival. Their numbers in captivity & the wild are low but, increasing as people are working to save the species. If I had to pick one bird as a pet- this would be it! You can't understand, until you have met or lived with one! (Or more!) ** Due to a tragedy with our other pair we only have one pair currently, they are not sucessfully breeding at this time **
