Bar
Silvin Hathorn, was born
on July 17, 1915 in Nogalus Prairie, TX. He had a love for horses from
a young age. He received a bay gelding as payment for a summer job helping
his grandfather with farm work. He went on acquiring unregistered horses
until September 12, 1958 when he purchased his first registered American
Quarter Horse, a 9 month old dun mare named "Beige Polly," and this began
his career in the American Quarter Horse Association. On April 27, 1967
he went to look at a 1961 bay stallion named "Whiz Bar" to breed a few
of his mares to. After looking at the horse looking at the horse
propositioned the man about buying him and was turned down. On September
11, 1967. The man called him and wanted to know if he was still interested
and of course he was. He began showing Whiz at the local show and doing
very well, out of 22 shows, he had taken 21 grands including the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo. He was retired from showing to take it easy in
the breeding barn. Which he did until fall 1981 when he coliced and passed
on. My grandfather then bought Mr. Pacific Bailey, Poco Silvin (by Whiz
Bar), Dually Impressive, and Im Rowdy Impressive. All which have now passed
on. My Grandfather died on January 18, 1991. He had over 100 head of horses
at his death. Today my wife Brandie, son Justin, two daughters Jacie &
Jenna, and I Clay Hathorn are still carring on the family name in the horse
industry and loving every minute of it.
