WILLIAM HEBDEN, born probably around 1562, married a MARGARET BROWN in 1587 in Ripley, Yorkshire.
They lived in the Ripley area for quite a few years before William died in 1602 in Clint.
Most of their nine children were christened in Ripley -
ELLENA( b. 1590, Ripley; d. 1612, Ripley), FRANCES (b. 1601, Ripley), JOHN (b. 1595, Ripley), WILLIAM ( b. 1592, Ripley; d. 1612, Ripley), FRANCIS ( b. 1593, Ripley; d. 1594, Ripley), ELIZABETH HEBDEN (b. 1589 Ripley), THOMAS ( b. 1598, Ripley; d. 1640), ALICE and ISABEL.
Few of the children lived to maturity.

ALICE married a THOMAS FOSTER in 1627 in either Otley or Leeds and ISABEL married a LAWRENCE FAVILL
THOMAS (1598-1640) married ELLEN GUYER in 1618 in Otley.

They had four known children – MARY who died in 1635, Otley, MARGARET who died in 1650, Otley and ISABEL who married a JOSEPH ATKINSON in 1621.
The fourth known child was a son THOMAS HEBDEN who married twice. The first wife was ANN WARD, whom he married in 1659. His second wife was a MARY TOWNEND who he married almost 20 years later in 1678 in Pannal (near Harrogate, Yorks).
Thomas and Ann Ward had four children
The first was another to hold the name of THOMAS and was born in 1661, then there was an ALICE, followed by a ROBERT and finally a son JOHN born in 1664 in Otley.

This JOHN (born 1664 in Otley), married JANE SWIRE in Kildwick. They lived in Denton and raised at least two children. There were two daughters and a son ( also named John)

This generation of JOHN HEBDENs was born in 1701 in Denton but at some stage moved to London where he eventually died in 1765 in the parish of St Clements Dane.
He did however marry prior to his move to London as his wife was a MARY PRESTLAND. They married in 1732 in Holy Trinity Goodramgate York.

What spurred JOHNs move to London is unknown but possibly it was linked to his musical ability. He became one of the Kings musicians in the court of King George II and worked with Handel himself. He also became a composer in his own right. Only fairly recently some of his work was found in a dusty archive and was republished on vinyl. I cant help wondering what he would think of that.

JOHN HEBDEN and MARY PRESTLAND had two known sons, PRESLAND HEBDEN who ws born in 1733 in Aldermanbury and died the following year, being buried in St Johns, Ousebridge York. His second son, another JOHN HEBDEN was born in 1736 in Holborn London.

This JOHN HEBDEN (1736-1799) married CATHERINE PARK in 1765.
Their son JOHN, born two years later in Isleworth achieved an MA at Oxford and became Vicar of Norton in Northamptonshire where he eventually died in 1820.
The next son was WILLIAM VAUGHAN HEBDEN and was born in 1769 in , Norton and died there in 1819, without issue.
Their sister CATHERINE was born 1770 in Isleworth and she married a. JAMES COGGAN in 1792 in Wanstead Essex.
There was also a ROBERT (ANTHONY) HEBDEN who was born in 1772, and died 1841 in Frant. His marriage was to a HARRIET STEVENSON and they married in 1810 in St George the Martyr, Queens Sq, London.

ROBERT and HARRIET took up residence in Ely Grange, Sussex where they raised their two children, another Robert and Harriet.

HARRIET CRAVEN HEBDEN, daughter of ROBERT and HARRIET married a SIR WILLIAM OGRADY-HALY, an army general by profession and there were children from this marriage.

The son of ROBERT & HARRIET, who was christened ROBERT JAMES HEBDEN and was born in Ely Grange, Sussex and married CAROLINE HESTER 1839 in Shelhurst Kent. How or why their subsequent travels came about I have no idea but Robert James Hebden eventually died in Sardinia. His body was brought back in 1877 and buried in Eday in the Orkneys, where their descendants still own land today.

ROBERT HAMILTON CRAVEN HEBDEN was the son of ROBERT JAMES & CAROLINE and was born in 1840 and died in 1873, in Eday Orkney. His career would appear to have been in the Royal Navy.
J B DOUGLAS HEBDEN, b. 1841, Eday Orkney died without issue. His death occurred in 1874 in Fayette, West Virginia USA and he was a Captain in the 42nd regiment.

The next known generation comes through HARRY CARWADINE HEBDEN (1842-1901), a JP, who was born and died in Eday Orkney. His marriage was to a LOUISA ANN RANKEN, daughter of Bryce McMurdo Ranken of Orquil.
Children of HARRY HEBDEN and LOUISA RANKEN were:
