In 1687 a ROBERT HEBDEN married ANNE WINDER1687 in Goldsborough , near Knaresborough. It is at the tail end of the reign of James II.

Robert was likely born around 1660 and being in such close proximity to Ripon & Sawley ( about 12 miles) makes it highly likely that he is of that line. To add weight to this are the names of his children and grandchildren, in particular the name of Christopher.

ROBERT and ANNE had two known sons, both born in Knaresborough. John was born in 1688 and Robert jnr was born 1690 and lived until 1741.

ROBERT junior married twice. His first wife was Isabel and his second, ELIZABETH LUPTON, whom he married in 1729 in Kirkdeighton near Wetherby.

It is not known whether Robert and Elizabeth had any children but he did have three with his first wife Isabel – all born in Knaresborough - ANN b. 1715, ALICE (1717-1736) & RICHARD born 1718.

His brother, JOHN, married in 1711 in Goldsborough but the name of his wife is unknown. He had four children, JOHN b. 1712 in Spofforth, ROBERT b. 1715, Knaresborough., THOMAS b. 1721, in Knaresborough and CHRISTOPHER b. 1724, Knaresborough.

The eldest son JOHN (born 1712 in Spofforth), married MARY BRADLEY in 1736 in Knaresborough and they had three known children – Ann b1741, Sarah b 1744 & John b 1753.

And then the line seems to disappear.

Hebdens crop up in Knaresborough from time to time over the centuries and would appear to be from the Pateley Bridge line and others. The above Hebdens seem to be the earliest Knaresborough residents and, as mentioned before, probably come out of the Ripon/Sawley line. Whether any of the future Knaresborough residents were of the above Hebdens is, for now, impossible to say.
