PRO BOWLERS
Come to Hawaii
Pins were flying at Lihue lanes and Subase lanes this month. Some of the best bowlers from the Western region cast their eyes on Hawaii for the 2nd Annual Rice Shopping Center West Region Open in Lihue and the 23rd Annual BOSS Hawaii Open at Naval Station Bowling Center. Among the many stars of the Western region, US open winner Robert Smith and Tony Reyes also bowled the tournament.

2nd Annual Rice Shopping Center West Region Open

Robert Smith put on a show as he shot the only 300 of the tournament but was passed by David Billings to take the qualifying lead into matchplay.
During matchplay, Tony Reyes and Smith both dominated the field. In the end though, it was Smith who won the title with an average of 227.

23rd Annual BOSS Hawaii Open at Naval Station Bowling Center

No 300's were thrown at Subase's event. The action was still hot though. After qualifying, Marv Sargent was leading by less than 20 pins over Hawaii's own Ryan Yoneda.
In matchplay, Robert Smith once again dominated as he swept the Hawaii regionals. Averaging 226 after 26 games, he beat out Sargent by over 140 pins.

High Scoring Year for Bowling

Congratulations to James Hylton for 900 series shot at AMF Firbird Lanes in Salem, Oregon. If sanctioned, his rare series will go in the record books as one of the toughest accomplishments in the game of bowling. Apparently, it was done on the first night of the league, which would make him a 300 average bowler after the first week. He was throwing an Elite Pearl.

Another congratulations goes out to Jeff Carter of Sherman Illinois. The former record holder of 300's in one season has outdone himself. Although he no longer holds the single season 300 record, he now holds the record for highest average in a single season. His 261 average for 69 games is the highest ever for a single season.
I'm sure he doesn't mind losing the single season 300 record though. He still has the most career 300's.
