Giving you this information is the easy part, but when you remember I live in Waianae getting to Aina Haina by 8 a.m. is another story. I woke up at 5:30 (it’s a long drive to Wailupe) to some dude talking politics on the radio. The sky looked nice but overcast with very high clouds. After eating, running the dog and loading the backpack it was off to 7-11 for lunch. No Linda today, she’s out looking for lost dogs. I had to stop in Nanakuli for gas, its up to $1.44/gal, not bad for O`ahu. The weather report was for rain today, but as I pumped gas at the Fast Stop the sun was trying to break out of the clouds. A smile came to my face as I took off down Farrington Highway.
As I came around Makakilo the smile was gone. The Ko`olau Summit was all socked in clouds and I did get rained on a few times as I drove along the H-1 Freeway. I arrived at the trail head about 7:50, just perfect. I checked my odometer its 44 miles from Wai`anae to the trail head.
