As Waiahole Valley on the far windward side of the island is such a long drive I set my alarm for 5:50 a.m. but for some reason I awoke at 5:30 and decided to stay up and get ready. Had a funny dream last nite about Nuuanu access. To get around the restricted access I was going to start from Jay's back yard which was some where in Nuuanu. What's weird about this is I have no idea where Jay lives, but I'm pretty sure it's not in Nuuanu Valley.
Anyway I went threw the usual bit of breakfast, feeding the dogs and running them. I had packed most of my gear the night before and so all I had to do was load them in the truck and wait for Linda. Lucky for me she was 5 minutes late, and I even with my waking up 20 minutes early was also running 5 minutes late. We left my house at 7 a.m. and headed to 7-11 for the usual, leaving there at 7:10. We were now running 10 minutes late.
Meeting time at the old poi factory was 8 a.m. Good thing the "van cams' were gone as I "sped" down Farrington Highway, H-1, and H-3. At times I was doing over 70 mph. Gee, can I get a ticket for admitting that? Or do the police have to clock me? Anyway we arrived save and sound about 2 minutes after 8. Below is a map of the area.
When Mabel was sure that everyone expected was there we drove way up South Waiahole Valley Road. I didn't clock the miles and my GPS is out of order so I can't say exactly where we stopped except it was just below a fork in the road with each fork gated. The gates had quite unfriendly signs as you can see on the next few photos.
