Because the garden does not open until 9 a.m. I had a chance to sleep in. It takes 1 hour from Wai`anae to Ho`omaluhia in Kane`ohe. I got up at 7 a.m. and left at 8. I actually got there a bit early as did many of the trail clearers We all lined up and waited until the gates were opened. We then drove to the parking lot beyond the Visitor's Center and loaded up our packs and equipment. We started walking around 9:15 back past the Visitor's Center and down the first dip.
At the bottom of the dip we turned left on a board of Water Supply road until we came to the locked gate blocking access to the well and pump.
