"Erik"

In 1991, I saw and was awed by a very young dog from California, Ch. Chelsea Drakkar of Oxford, FCh., ROMX.  To my eye Drake was stunning and his effortless movement couldn't help but turn anyone's head!  I knew then that someday I wanted him to be part of my dreams for Lauralbriar.

Today, a son of the incomparable Drake, out of Ch. Chelsea First Kiss, J.C., has come to Lauralbriar, and he's quickly made his mark!  A Champion at only 9 months old, Ch. Chelsea Rum Truffle, Erik to his friends!  He finished in style with 4 Best of Winners, 2 Best Puppy in Group and Best Puppy in Specialty under Mrs. Jane Forsyth.  His pedigree speaks for itself; a virtual "Who's Who" of Whippets, combining both beauty and strong field desire.  

Erik has proven himself and his breeding by being much more then a pretty face!  At the age of 16 months he qualified to course in Canada, and in only 5 trials finished his Field Championship!  He ventured to the U.S. one day in May 2003, to compete in the American leg of the Can-Am Challenge and came away with a 3rd place and his first 20 ASFA points.  In July, he competed in Michigan at the North Coast Coursers Whippet Specialty, and went BEST IN FIELD!  The following 2 days, he placed 2nd in ASFA coursing, so after only 4 trials in the U.S., Erik has his placements and 98 pts. towards his American F.Ch. as well!  He finished near historic Gettysburg on the first of 2 days coursing with extra points and ran his first F.Ch. class the following day.  With a second BEST IN FIELD won only a few weeks later in Thunder Bay, Ontario, he truly is on his way!  His love of the chase and his amazing capabilities are a joy to watch, and you can be sure he'll be having a great time on the field  every time he runs!  

In February 2006, Erik went Walkabout - all the way to Europe!  He is being lovingly cared for and handled by Tony Groenendijk of StripDuke Whippets and was just recently bred to the  lovely StripDuke's by Design, Jr. Ch, producing a fantastic litter of 5 male puppies for Tony.  As well, he has just been bred to a lovely bitch of the Gentle Minds Whippets in Germany and to a lovely bitch belonging to Superfly Whippets also in Germany!  The pups from these litters are all stunning - with that happy, outgoing temperament that Erik is known for!  Now that they are in the ring, they are showing their daddy's contributions - with Best Puppies in both Group and Show and a Junior Champion already with Erik's son from Tony's own litter!

He finished his Dutch Championship with grand style and has given Tony a great thrill by making his presence felt in Holland, winning his first two CACIB's by going Best in Show at the National Dutch Whippet Club Specialty only a week after his arrival there!  More details of his 5 month Eurpoean adventure can be found on Tony's wonderful Whippet blog, Whippetly Yours. 

Erik has retired to being the truly loved companion that has always been his most important role!  Thank you Erik, for the wonderful wins, wonderful children and wonderful times we've had together - now, "come grow old with me, the best is yet to be!" 

With a stunning outline, beautiful head and neck and outstanding movement, he is a dream come true.  Evident throughout is the intelligent and sound breeding skills of Deann and Lee Christianson of Chelsea Whippets.  Your love of the breed is obvious in the care you take in breeding and your uncompromising high standards are an example to all.  It is indeed a pleasure and an honour to have Erik here in Canada and to call you "friend".
