 Ariel is the main character of The Little Mermaid. She is the seventh and youngest (16 years old) daughter of the Sea King, King Triton. Arial is head-strong (as described by sebastian), dreamy, and stubborn. She is known for her beautiful voice. In the under sea kingdom, it is forbidden for a mer-person to go to the surface of the ocean. Humans are considered barbaric and evil. But, Ariel has an infatuation with Humans, and collects anything she finds on the bottom of the sea that has come from the world above. Her love for the Human world gets her into trouble, but leads to a happy ending. |
 Eric is the 18-year-old human Prince that Ariel falls in love with. He is brave, caring, and loyal. He is pressured by Grimsby to get married soon, but says he will not until he finds the prefect girl. When the ship wrecks and Ariel saves Eric, she sings to him. Eric falls in love with her voice and vows to find the girl who saved him that night. |
 Flounder is Ariel's best friend. He is cowardly, loyal, and often tries to talk Arial out of doing mischief, but never wins. He accompanies Ariel besicly everywhere she goes. |
 Sebastian is the court composer for the under sea kingdom. His life is devoted to music until he accidently tells Triton that Ariel has fallen in love with a human. Triton hires Sebastian to watch over Ariel and keep her under control. Sebastian softens up to Ariel and ends up helping her in her quest to win Eric's heart. |
 Scuttle is the sea gull that tells Ariel about all of the Human things she finds in the sea. Though, his history of the human treasures is made-up, he is still a loyal friend to Ariel and the other sea creatures. Scuttle is thick-headed, abnoxious, and crazy. |
 Triton is Ariel's father and the sea king. He rules the sea with balance and fairness. He never overlooks a detail. He has a distinct hate for Humans, and forbids everyone from going to the surface. |
 Ursula is the evil sea witch. She was banned from the sea kingdom many years ago, and has been living in a cave (or a skeleton thingy..). She is the last hope for the "poor unfortunate" souls, and has the power to do magic. Her goal is to gain revenge on Triton for banishing her. To get revenge, her plan is to put Ariel's life in jeopardy, which will cause Trioton to give up his power as king to save his daughter. |
 Grimsby is Eric's guardian. It is assumed that Eric's parents have died, and Grimsby is left to care for Eric til he is old enough to rule the kingdom himself. |
 Max is Eric's shaggy dog. When the ship is sinking everyone off of the ship but Max. Eric goes back on the burning ship to save his dog Max. When Arial is hiding from the humans, Max is the only one that seems to notice her. |
 Louie is the French chef working in Eric's palace. He almost cooks Sebastian for dinner, and destroys the kitchen trying to catch him, but Sebastian escapes. |
 The Shark plays a small part in the beginning of the movie. When Ariel and Flounder are searching a sunken ship for human "things", he attacks them, and they barely get away. |
 The messenger sea horse delivers all the messages from Triton to whom ever they are to. |
