Helpful Hints for Parents
Read with your children nightly. Not only does reading count as a homework grade, you can help your student acquire important reading skills such as comprehension. Modeling good reading is also very important. When you sign your student's reading log, please make sure that your child has either read independently, read to you or someone else, or you have read to your child for 20 minutes. Did your student forget his/her log? No problem- either write a note in his/her agenda, sign a piece of paper saying your student read, or write me a note!
Having trouble helping your student with math? I know this math can be tough. Your student has a hard-cover reference book that they are more than welcome to bring home so that you can help them. It does a great job in explaining the "new" methods that we use to solve problems.
Your student will have a spelling test and sometimes a Math 4 Today test each Friday. I give out a small slip of paper each Monday with spelling words on them. Math 4 Today sheets are kept by the student and they can also bring these home, as long as they have them each morning. Some Fridays as well, your student will have a math quiz based on the lessons I have taught during the week.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at school. E-mail is the quickest way to contact me, but you may also call the school and leave a message with the front office. I will call you back as soon as I get a chance. You can also send notes with your student. Thank you for all the support you give your students at home. It is crucial that parents and teachers learn to support their students to ensure that each child reaches his or her potential.
